Hey guys,

I've removed the battery to clear the CMOS and started from scratch - still nothing, all fans and CPU fire up, HDD LED comes on, light on DVD player keeps flashing, one slow one quick.

One 2GB stick of RAM in DIMM 1 so far.

Id say put it back to the last known good configuration. That means CPU, RAM, GPU, etc. See if it fires up with that. Then if it doesnt, 1 at a time swap parts over. Liek swap the RAM first. See if it fires up. If it does, then swap the GPU. See if it fires up. Then after updating your BIOS, swap the CPU. That way you'll be able to identify which component is causing you your woes.
Good luck

Should give us the model of your PSU. Who knows maybe its not good enough. Also I'm very unclear on how you have stuff plugged in. Maybe some pictures of all the power supply leads going to the motherboard. Should only be 2.

Hi Jolt,

Thanks for the advice but I think if you look at my sig you'll see the power supply is plenty powerful enough.

Cheers

OK, get her to boot now, got into BIOS and entered "load fail safe settings" - then made sure boot device set to CD/DVD drive first, then HDD second, save and exit, reboots then goes comes up with "looking for IDE drive" then comes up with DISC ERROR LOAD SYSTEM DISC again.

I have the first HDD and RAM reinstalled as I did when it first worked.

There is a warning on the 4pin plug that is alongside the 20pin plug that clearly states "DO NOT CONNECT THIS CABLE WITH THE 4 PIN ATX 12V CONNECTOR, MOTHER BOARD OR CPU CAN BE DAMAGED" - unless they mean dont plug this one into the 4 pin socket on the motherboard - not very clear.

It may be the HDD, but I as well think you're confused about the power. Here are some pics to clear things up:

The 24pin cable I circled in the second picture goes in the 24pin on the mobo. ALL the pins need to be connected, that warning label is telling you not to plug that 4pin on the 24pin cable into the 4pin slot on the mobo (for the CPU).

Hope that clears that issue up.

Hey Monkey,

Thanks for the effort there, I've now got them connected up properly but still having the same issue, I've just tried the HDD in another system - I'm fairly certain the HDD has had it, I took a good win XP HDD and tried that, I can get to BIOS and it can see the HDD but then it comes up with ACHP to SATA error or something similar, I've just removed the battery to do another CMOS clear and try again as everytime I switch off to change something and switch on again it just hangs on the black screen.
