flac level 5 and flac level 0

which is better

with my understanding I think the level 0 has less compression

correct me if i'm wrong

which is better?

Not that I know anything about FLAC, but it's pretty obvious to me that the less compression there is, the higher the sound quality.

it is the amount of compression. compression will not reduce sq because it is lossless. a flac is like a zip for wav files. it compresses them to make them smaller.

I never understood that, its supposed to be lossless so its either lossess or not, not different quality levels. I think it may be related to the level of compression and the time taken to compress/uncompress - not sure though.

i just had the same thought as you. it might ahve something to do with teh amout of time it takes to convert.

like a flac 5 will take 30 sec. and a flac 0 would take 23 sec.

More compression -> slower to compress and decompress, smaller filesize

Less compression -> faster to compress and decompress, larger filesize

In terms of audio quality both are exactly the same as they are lossless.
I advise using as much compression as possible i.e. Flac level 8 as this will save you storage space. Compression and decompression times are short, especially with the fast processors available now.
