how do u use msg.exe to send messages

im trying to figure this out and cant seem to do it

when they say "username"

what do they exactly mean like the name of there computer or ip ???

username in Msg means the username of the user from that Windows installation.

if my Windows install is George-PC, then it would be George-PC as my username.

Why exactly are you using msg.exe?

im trying to just figure out how to use it in general

i had some friends over and one of them had same os and we couldnt figure it out

cause i read that u can shut ppls computer off and stuff

i just wanna know how to talk to other ppl on it



What if they are not connected to ur network can u send through ip?

I don't think so. If you want to talk to someone else then why don't you just use Live Messenger or AIM or something like that?

I don't understand what you're trying to do.

You're trying to talk to a friend online, in the same house? What the hell?

Why not just um.. talk to them directly..?

Well if you are on XP or before and the other machine you want to talk to is also xp or before -- you have to make sure the messenger service is running on both machines. Then open a command prompt and type -- net send "ip address or netbios computer name" then the message. So, for example -- net send 192.168.1.5 hello

This utility has been disabled (or is actually not even present) since vista (maybe even since XP SP1 or SP2 evev, I can't remember)
