Windows 7 not a fan of PS2 Keyboards.

Thread Starter
I can not boot into windows 7 7068 with a ps2 keyboard plugged in.
I get this error message until I unplug it and re boot with a USB board.

Is there a way around this?
I collect keyboards and most of them are ps2

Hmmm. Did you check your BIOS? Is I/O enabled? That's really strange. Maybe it is just that particular keyboard?

It's kind of funny this is happening, cause it used to be the opposite, older versions of Windows sometimes didn't like you to default plug-in the USB keyboard.

You could try just booting up with the USB keyboard plugged in, then just plugging in the PS/2 once you get to the desktop.

Thanks for the reply.

I/O is enabled yes and the ps2 boards (any of them) work fine in the bios.

I just tried plugging in the ps2 board after booting with a USB board in (Happy hacking pro 2) And it did nothing.
Does not seem to see anything at all?

(when I plug it in the lights on the PS2 board do blink once)

I just booted with one of each in and it seems OK so far.
Perhaps 7 needed a few re boots to get the PS2 driver running?

Hmmm... That's really strange. Maybe your PS/2 keyboard is just old? But yeah, sounds like a Windows 7 driver issue.

Some of them are about 20 years old some are brand new.
It did not seem to make a difference.
However it all seems to work fine now.

Would like to know if anyone else has had this issue.
I could not find it on any windows forums though.

And again today it happened.
I am also having a lot of lock ups.
Normally when I have the firefox beta running.
It will say not responding and I will loose all control of everything but mouse movement.
When I re start the PC I often get this error message.

The screen will say to start the repair but on re boot the same message will come up.

A few re starts later and it will try to fix windows but say it can not fix it.
The next boot is fine.

Im finding it hard to track down the culprit causing all this.

I don't understand what you're complaining about. This kind of thing sounds perfectly normal for Windows. Now if you told me everything was running flawlessly, well THEN you'd have something to be concerned about...
