It's a GPU problem. I've played around with SLI before on another rig and the stutter wasn't anything like this, and that rig was using Vista. Believe me I've given the card plenty of chances...it's just not happening.

Just wondering, what card(s) will you be upgrading to if you sell your 295?

Its the GX2/295 nature and how its made. It can't be avoided really, Drivers help but that's about it. Some get it badly, some don't. Me, I never get microstutter in any of my games.

But if you do feel like you want to ditch the 295, then I say go for a SLi 285. Or a Single 285

My board doesn't do SLI. I came from a single GTX 280, so a single 285 would put me right back where i was. CF 4890's will perform better than the GTX 295 be a good amount anyway.

Since getting my GTX295 I've played through COD5, Fallout3 (including BS and the Pitt), Crysis and WH, L4D, Portal, FEAR2, and played a decent chunk of CS and Prince of Persia, and started Cryostasis.

The *ONLY* game that had any kind of stuttering (other than at autosaves) was Cryostasis ... which runs like crap for everyone from what I've read (plus ... I don't care cause I hate that game).

I'm wondering if there's some common thread here amongst those having stuttering issues. I see that you are running a 8x 2.0 board Jason ... whereas Mclovin is on a 16x 1.1, and I am on 16x 2.0. I wonder if the others having this issue are also on 8x 2.0 maybe? Frankly, if I had a P45, I'd probably wanna just run crossfire myself, just because I know I'd always be wondering if I really had enough PCI-ex bandwidth to be getting the most out of my 295.

But I gotta say, on my rig ... this card runs like butter, man.

I'm not on an 8x board..that's when the board is in crossfire with both slots being used. When a single card is being used, the slot runs at 16x.

Furthermore...my card benches fine, it just stutters.

Well, Jason, I learned something new today. Since every board I've ever had has their pci-ex slot width kinda 'set', I forgot that it was possible for it to change based on how many cards were put in. So I guess that's how the p45 is ... very cool. So, apparently that is *not* the common thread, which means I continue to wonder what, if anything, IS common betwixt those who are seeing this problem.

And 'furthermore', I wasn't talking about benching. I am talking about having sat here and gamed for a good 100+ hours with this card, at least 'trying it' with 10+ different games, and I've never seen this 'micro-stuttering' phenomenon some folks appear to have. And trust me, I have a keen eye for the slightest of malfunctions with my gfx card, or with my system in general.

So again, I just wonder why some people have it and some don't. There must be a commonality ... whether or not we ever actually figure it out is a whole other story

I'm not sure what could possibly cause it, but I don't think it's hardware related. Robilar and I have discussed it and why he went to CF 4890's and why I should do the same. Also, has a much better up to date rig than me, and gets the same stutter in the same games that I have it in.
