I'm kinda hoping since this r520 thing isn't going so well, that the r580 would be pushed up. BUT, that would most likely require the g72 being pushed up and if the r520 is lacking, the g72 doesn't have to rush, sigh.

Yeah, ATI is kinda pinned. They need to pull out some serious frames on games (like 20+ more than GTX) for it to be justified as being $50 more than just the 7800GTX, and judging by the XL price ATI's arnt gonna be too affordable compared to Nvidia cards.. If only ATI had gotten the R520 tweaked and perfrected sooner they may not have had to resort to having prices up so high.

In my opinion, they should have scrapped the R520 and released the R580 instead.

Good point, just scrapped/put on hold the R520 and modified the R580 core, or rename the modified R580 to R520 since they could have done it simpler, and would have been able to get their cards out sooner, but well.. People dont think out of the Frinkahedron.

Some still think that the R580 will come out before x-mas which might be what ati needs to get some sales back. They could still do it and then just lower the price of their other cards slightly. I think that would get them back into the competitive game, but we'll see.

A pre holiday release would be ATIs best option for the R580 if they want to get the most sales on it. Of course, that would mean that they would actually have to "release" it.
