G.Skill 2x 2gig ddr2 800

Thread Starter
One of my ddr2 sticks "died" about a month ago. I tried tons of things to get it to work(can't RMA since I'll need to send both of them back in and I have nothing to use while they're out of my comp) and just yesterday, I tried lowering the frequency in BIOS and it WORKED! I upped the frequency(it's only at 266MHz now because if I make it any higher it won't work). Is there something magical I can do to be capable of using both of my sticks at normal frequency?

Have you identified the problem DIMM? I know nothing about RMA but are you sure you have to do both?

My suggestion. Pick up a couple of 1GB sticks for cheap to use while your RMA is being processed.

If you can't do that, increase voltages to see if that makes them more stable. If it doesn't, you're either stuck at 266 or you're going to HAVE to RMA them Good luck

If you're running a 64 bit OS then buy 4 more gig and RMA those and when you get them back you'll have 8gb!

How bad is 266? I can't really tell the difference in performance but I'm sure there is one.

Yes, I have identified the messed up one. I'm nearly positive you need to return it as you got it.

I would if I had money. Actually, I take it back. I would buy new RAM to go x64(just as the next guy suggests). I have my voltage at 2.2...kinda scared to go to 2.31 since it's red and all I need is 2 messed up sticks.

Yeah, I planned on doing this but I'm broke at the moment.

As poster said you could just order more for the RMA process. Not a bad idea but it does limit your OC potential. Does that potential matter? I don't know but guys like to only use 2 slots.

I am no expert and have not done. But I suspect you could work with them. By that I mean maybe if you give them a CC# they will send?

I had a DeLL. My floppy drive failed. The floppy and CD were the same. They sent me the replacement then I put the return in the same packaging to send back.

This is not from experience but sometimes talking and explaining yourself goes a long way. I don't want to say more. But a CC# goes a long way toward making them feel safe.
