The Official Yate Loon Fan Club - Page 59

Im thinking of buying a bunch of high speed yates to fill up my carbide 400r case. Should I replace the stock fans with yates? Im also buying some for a couple of friends' builds. The only thing Im really worrying about is I dont know much bout the technology of the fans and I remember reading that some fans cannot be mounted either horizontally or vertically. If thats an issue then Im considering buying these fans from microcenter to complement the yates.

just got 6 d12-SM secondhand but from petra's originally. louder than i thought, may try 5V. though they move a ton of air

edit: running them on 7V (6.66V actual) and they're nice and quiet except for a high pitch whine, may be capacitors or something. a pull fan on my cpu heatsink was making a god-awful whining which i solved by putting a small spacer between it and the heatsink. im gonna fiddle with it some more to see if i can locate the source this time.

Nope. When disassembled , the fan had no capacitors, only free space to add two 2.2Mf/50V. So I bought them for 0.05 Euro, but they have to be miniature - about 7mm high to fit inside the motor. I didn't find any miniature capacitors, only regular - 11mm and that's what I used for my getto mod. You can't remove the stator part to use PCB without breaking it, so I made two holes with a drill for capacitors soldering.

Genuine Yate's have capacitors on the inside of the impeller for the reason that you modded them into place for.
