Edit: Do you think I would be able to use the manufacturer's specs to compare the fans, or would the testing methods be too different?

Might just be the SuperIO chip on my aging board then.

I'm in with 2 x 9SG1212P1G01 beauties...

One on my main PC and the second one used for testing and other fun stuff. Or maybe I'll just do a push-pull with the two of them on the Venomous X.... A bit overkill, but that's what we're all about, isn't it?

PS: Excuse the mess of wires and the "dusty" components. The computer is due for a tear down and complete cleanup this coming weekend.

120x38 ~ 6000 RPM ~ 48W

Well then it is definitely something with the sensor IC on this board. With SpeedFan, put fan on 25% and it says 2755rpm, then 4500, down to 2755, then 10500rpm, etc, etc, etc. Get those readings in several apps.

I've found the specs for industrial fans to be pretty accurate. So I trust specs from Delta, EBM Papst, Nidec, San Ace, Servo -- even Panaflo, NMB, Globe, Adda.

That's one of their standard fans. Do other fans transmit a signal to your mb? If so, you have a bad fan, and should discuss it with your vendor.
