For whatever reason... I can't seem to pass by a TIM display (or online deal) without snatching some up.
So... My compulsion is the boards gain... I am going to put together a TIM shootout.

I currently have (or will be provided with):
  1. OCZ Freeze (almost empty)
  2. TIM Consultants TC-0098 Grease
  3. Shin Etsu G751
  4. Dynex silver compound
  5. Zalman STG1**
  6. AS5**
  7. Thermalright Chill Factor 2
  8. Coollaboratory Liquid Pro
  9. Dow Corning 340 Thermal Compound
  10. Dow Corning TC-5022
  11. ICD7**
  12. Noctua NT-H1
  13. Chillaramic Thermal Grease
  14. Tuniq TX-1**
  15. Cooler Master Thermal Fusion 400
** See Acknowledgment Section

Positive Replies:
  1. TIM Consultants (SAMPLE RECEIVED!)
  2. Coollaboratory (SAMPLE RECEIVED!)
  3. Dow Corning (SAMPLE RECEIVED!)
  4. Noctua (Samples Sent!)
  5. Cooler Master (SAMPLE RECEIVED!)
  6. 3M (Request Forwarded)
  7. Tuniq (Request Forwarded)

Negative Response or No Response After 2 E-Mails
  1. Arctic Silver, Inc. (Negative Response... Read)
  2. Innovation Cooling (No Response)
  3. Shin Etsu MicroSi (No Response)
  4. Arctic Cooling (No Response)
  5. OCZ (No Response)
If you would like me to include another TIM, please provide me contact info and I will send out an e-mail.

Notes/Methodology:
  • I will be testing on a Lapped TRUE.
  • It should be shipped by Tuesday and hopefully ready for testing by this weekend.
  • I will follow the Manufacturer recommendations for application.
  • I will photograph everything for posterity and continuity.
  • I will attempt to maintain a constant ambient (to the best of my ability).
  • I will likely apply EACH TIM 3-4 times to account for any anomalies in one specific application.
  • I will record ambient temp... Idle temps... and Load temps (15-20 minutes Prime95 small fft)

If anyone wants to contribute a TIM to the review, I will test whatever the community provides, and return the tube after the test is concluded. (Unless I'm instructed to keep it, or give it away as a Freebie... either of which I would be happy to do.)

All TIM that gets donated for purposes of these tests will be given away via the Freebie section at the test's conclusion. So don't ask if I will sell TIM after. I'm not trying to profit off of these companies generosity.

Acknowledgments:
  • Special Thanks to Jason4i7 for providing the Zalman STG1 and the AS5!
  • Special Thanks to AnarchyCow for providing me a tube of ICD7!
  • Special Thanks to Kremtok for providing me a tube of Tuniq TX-2!
  • ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Thank you to Sabrina Herrmann from Coollaboratory for the sample!
  • Thank you to Sandy from the "Sample Team" at Dow Corning for the samples!
  • Thank you to Andreas Karner from Noctua's marketing team for the samples!
  • Thank you to David Dalesandro from TIM Consultants for the (refill) sample!
  • Thank you to Lulu, Bryant and Joe from Cooler Master for the samples!
  • ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Thanks to sdla4ever for selling me his Lapped TRUE!!

If you ordered and included IC7 Diamond and Tuniq TX-2, then a huge YES! Definitely would be a welcome addition here.

I don't have ICD7 =(

I guess I could buy some for purposes of the review... but I already feel stupid having 5 nearly full tubes of TIM. (which incidentally is half the reason I want to do this...)

I'm willing to listen to the board though.
If the people want ICD7 I guess I'd cave into peer pressure... I'm kind of a push-over.

Take last Thursday for example:

Josh: C'mon man... lets go to the bar tonight
Me: Naw man... I can't... I have court early tomorrow...
Josh: Awwwwwww... really?? C'mon....
Me: Gah... alright fine.

most people are gonna ask for IC7 so you might as well add it to the review otherwise you are gonna hear this "You should of added IC7 to review" over and over again. I would really like to see the Dynex stuff in the review cause alot of people in a pinch will make that run to Best buy if they happen to run out of the good stuff.

Exactly. Tuniq is also highly respected and some will want their TX-2 included in the shootout, as well.

Well... everything I've listed will certainly be put into the review. (The dynex stuff included)

Like I said... I don't know how much I want to run out to buy another tube of TIM (given that I have more than any one person will ever need already)... but I'm expecting that it will be the overwhelming "write-in".

That being said... I still want to see what people want.

I'll be updating the main thread for a couple days with what people have requested. I'll set some floor... and anything with enough requests will get added. Maybe I can get in contact with some vendors and see if they want to subsidize my little experiment (although I doubt it). Who knows. I know a lot of people have had a lot of luck coming from here though... asking for help.

Well except for the IC and Tuniq pastes, you've already got some of the best stuff available (although Dynex is more like the paste you go out and get for temporary use until you can stock more of the good stuff), so as long as you toss in IC7D and TX-2, there probably won't be a lot of requests for anything else.

Add the standard white silicon cheap stuff as well for comparison.

Try the toothpaste test as well for a laugh.

I can't find my tube of AS5.

So all I would have would be:

Shin Etsu, TC 0098, OCZ Freeze, and Dynex Silver Compound.

I think there are too many holes in that lineup (No AS5 and No ICD7) for anyone to care. I think I'd end up getting too many complaints about not including those in the test.

Anyone want to supply me with a tube of theirs? I would return it after I'm done... of course.
