Another budget gaming rig.. - Page 2

I'll start off with the powersupply. Since you've already made the change to a board that won't allow for you to go SLI in the future the 650 tx would be more than enough power for your rig even if you decided to go with one of the big bad mamajama (775) quads later on.

Now the changes i made on your component choices are just my opinion on what would make a better build in the long run.

If you live near a microcenter you can go even one step farther on the CPU for the rig since microcenter has a deal on the C2D e8400 $119.00.

If you're buying it all from the egg here's what i'd suggest

MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv2 GeForce GTX 260 - $189.99 ($30 MiR)
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V - $94.99 ($20 MiR)
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 - $64.00 ($30 MiR)
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm - $36.99 ($10 MiR)
XIGMATEK ACK-I7751 Retention Bracket - $8.49
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 + C2D e7400 Combo $219.98 ($15 MiR)

Total Before Shipping and Rebates = $614.44

Shipping (30094) = $13.46

Total before MiR = $627.90

Mail-Ins = $105.00

Total after mail-ins = $522.90

The UD3R with E7400 combo seems like a nice deal!

If you go with a HD4890 you can settle with a Corsair VX550 power supply.

Oh and what about the 650watt PSU? Shaving $25 off my total would be pretty nice.
I would really really reconsider purchasing the open box mobo. You might get a perfectly good board with all the necessary cables and then you could get a board without any cables and/or the board could go south after a short time.

Is that chance really worth the $18-$20 difference in price from new retail? Wouldn't be worth it to me. RMA / shipping would negate the savings if you had to send the board back.

New: $99 after MIR AND Free Shipping
Open Box: $82.50 NO Free Shipping

Motherboards are one piece of hardware thats always best to buy new. (In my honest opinion)

You should be perfectly fine with the 650 Corsair.

ugg.. so I wasn't able to purchase the rig when I wanted (have to wait for my federal refund on the 28th) and in the mean time I've been tweaking around with the newegg cart. I should say Ive decided to go with dual gpu's, I upgraded the power supply to the 750w corsair.

I'm torn between these two setups:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P + GIGABYTE GV-R487D5-1GD Radeon HD 4870 1GB
$309.89 - 50 MIR

EVGA 132-CK-NF78-TR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard + EVGA 896-P3-1255-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB
$324.98 - 50 MIR

Im thinking the Nvidia is the way to go but 4870 is cheaper and I've been reading reviews that lean towards 2x4870, esp. with AA running. This max/min crap is driving me nuts...

I think the Gigabyte and 4870 is the way to go. I've only had some not-so-good experiences with nForce chipsets - thats why i'll lean towards the P45 chipset.
