Awesome job OP! My question is, won't the fan blades be a bit heavier with all those coats? Will that effect the lifespan of the fan?

I haven't had any problems with the fans I have painted. As long as you don't go crazy with the paint, they should still spin at their original speeds. Light coats are the key. It would be interesting to see how much weight is added to a fan when painted though. Someone should do an experiment.

Question: What can I do to get a more glossy kind of finish? Would sanding the blades help? Or would sanding them make things look worse? Who's tried it?

Sanding wouldn't really help. Using some high gloss paint would be what you would want to do. What color were you interested in?

I'm not decided yet.... Im on a black and white theme right now. I was thinking of adding a third color as a highlight. Probably blue though...

ramsey, gotta quick question, i was painting my fans and i seem to be getting a cracked look when its drying, is there anyway to prevent this? i may can post a picture once my fan drys and can get good lighting.

ive gotta apply one more coat there is some primer still showing thru in some places, i was just trying to get rid of the "cracked look"

so after taking a picture, ive noticed it looks good in the picture so maybe everyones looks like that and im being very picky on how good a fan could look or maybe i could of done better, tongue.gif

id say grab some high gloss paint and a can of clear coat, ive always liked the shine that clear coat leaves on something of high gloss.

Did you clean your fans with alcohol before you laid the paint? It sounds like something isn't mixing well with the paint.
