Asus P6T X58 Owners Guide - Page 17

Hello, I have been reading this thread for a few weeks. Sorry my first post is so huge.

Here is what I have done so far. All test are done with the following bios settings; q-fan enabled for system fans and cpu fan, legacy disk disabled, and hd audio disabled.

1. all bios settings to auto. resulting in 133 bckl and CPU 2800 Mhz with speed step during load. temps 40 at idle and 60 under load. memory auto set to 1066 7-7-7-20 1N by bios. results in no immediate errors in prime95, i stopped the test after an hour.

2. i changed memory to 1333 7-7-7-24 1N with 1.64. all other settings left unchanged. again no immediate errors in prime95.

3. i changed memory to 1600 7-7-7-24 1N with 1.64. results in error with in ten minutes in prime95. These settings also resulted in error during OCCT.

4. i changed command rate to 2N, resulting in 1600 7-7-7-24 2N with 1.64v. this resulted in error in prime95 after and hour and ten minutes.

This is when I stated getting a little mad, and may have veered off of the path of the scientific method.

5. I thought if I increased the vcore and qpi voltage it may help. So I manually set them to 1.225v. Now why I did not run prime95 at this pint I do not know. Maybe I was bored. So with these settings I ran Linpak, which resulted in error after 45 minutes. This was again with 1600 7-7-7-24 2N 1.64v So even with the added voltage I got errors with a command rate of 2N.

6. Now I decided to stress everything else but the memory. With vcore and qpi at 1.225v I used the following. bckl 180x20 resulting in 3600 Mhz under load. Memory at 1440 7-7-7-24 1N 1.64v. This resulted in no errors in prime95 after 12 hours. core temps got to 70 under load.

What is bothering me is that those were to OC setting I was planning on using (with hopefully lower voltages) once I insured stability at stock setting. So what do I do? I have rock solid stability with the OC I wanted, but am having trouble getting stability with the stock memory settings.

Should I try the memory at 1600 7-7-7-24 1N and 2N with the CPU underclocked? If it fails prime95 like that then it is most certainly the memory right?

Now that I know that I have the OC I want should I even care? I guess if I want to shoot for a bclk of 200 I will need the memory to run at 1600.

You could try 7-7-7-28 1N, or if not choose 2N same timings.
with qpi at 1.35v i still get errors in prime95 at 7-7-7-24 1N, but when command rate is changed to 2N I have stability. i did not want to have to set qpi voltage that high. i guess if I try for a bckl of 200 i will be needing to increase voltage anyway. with my current stable overclock of bckl 180x20 with memory at 1440 7-7-7-24 1N i can use all of the standard voltages though.

in the ocz forums the tech support is saying that if the qpi is what is preventing stability then it is entirely a cpu problem and not a memory problem.

has anyone got memory to run at 1600 7-7-7-24 1N on the P6T? if so what are your voltage settings?

Heldow pewple! Sup Robilar! You busy SOB... r u ever not gonna have a thread going?

I am considering getting a Monsta Rad to WC just the i7 and the chipset, so I can get realy low temps with super quiet rig using very very low rpms.

So I am wondering a few things...

1. What might be a good estimate of the highest rock-solid, 24/7, 364, fort-knox-safe OC I might get?
2. And is it necessary to WC the chipset? What would be the OC difference?
3. Should I consider a different P6T? An other ASUS MoBo?

those are great timings. that is with DDR3 rate for 2000 Mhz though huh? Mine is only rated for 1600 Mhz. What are the rest of your voltage settings infected?

Howdy mate

With a D0, depending on the chip, 4ghz 24/7 on air is the minimum you can look forward to. Plenty of D0's are doing 4.2 on air.

The fact that you are using water increases your range. 4.3-4.4 is feasible.

No point in WC the chipset unless you go north of 4ghz. Even then, good airflow across the NB is sufficient.

I have both the P6T and the P6T Deluxe V2.

Both overclock the same.

The P6T supports Tri-sli and the Deluxe does not.

The Deluxe has much better spacing if you are only going to use two GPU's.

Either is great, only the GPU's should decide which you will use.

Excellent, thanks Robilar. I have been looking for people like you to answer my questions but there ain't that many. Virtual Rep+

OK, so 4.2Ghz will be my goal for a super duper stable clock if I go P6T. One of the main reasons for going with water is to get a silent rig going. I should be able to get all the 120mm fans on the Antec 1200 running on medium or perhaps even low, and use Yate Loon 140mm medium speeds for the Rad. I should get a near inaudible rig... :cross fingers:

I might however go with a GIGABYTE GA-EX58-EXTREME to make it easier to make the rig OS agnostic. But the P6T might be compatible enough.

I want to go with the P6T but it seems the Gigabyte OC's VERY well too. It also comes with a WC ready chipset cooling system that would save me a few bucks. I'll just make sure to add a 120mm blowing directly on the Mosfet HSs to help the little heat pipes out.
