Asus P6T X58 Owners Guide - Page 8

Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone has had an issue on this board when the system is overclocked where there is no post from a cold boot but the reset button sorts the issue immediately?

Apart from that issue the overclock is 100% stable and the board works fine.

Any suggestions/ideas appreciated.

Which issues? you mean downclocking if you go above 4ghz from 21x to 20x automatically when under 100% load?

All of the asus boards currently have this issue from what I have seen. (including the rampage II extreme). There is a fairly extensive thread on this issue at XS covering several of the asus boards.

Rumour has it that a bios update will resolve this.

to the poster above with the cold boot issue, that was common on the Asus P6T and P6T Deluxe (but not the V2 of the P6T Deluxe). It should be resolved by updating to the most current bios release.

Bios updates resolved the cold boot issues (at least in my case).

Regarding the multi drop, not only will it be fixed in the next batch of bios releases, but who actually runs 100% load across 4+4 cores at above 4ghz for any length of time?

prime95 will still determine stability and I'm not aware of many programs that will actually load at 100% across for physical and virtual cores for any length of time.

Running north of 4ghz is pointless as well. There have been several extensive studies (tom's did a great one not long ago) showing that the sweet spot for the i7 chips is 3.6 ghz. for benching purposes, going higher is fine but there aren't any benching programs that even come close to loading out multiple cores in such a way as to trigger the multi drop.

I personally don't use the 21x multi as 20x200 works just fine.

Does anyone know what the IOH/ICH PCI-E settings do? Also hwo do you determine optimal skews and when to set them? same with CPU differential amplitude.

are you running into stability issues? If not they can be left on auto. Depends on what you are shooting for in a stable overclock.

I've played with both settings a bit without seeing any difference in stability.

Tom's is really wrong there. They determined it based on performance per watt and they went to 1.5v to get to 4ghz.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...7,2268-10.html

If you look at the benchmarks, not everything is linear in terms of performance, but it's not a waste.

If you look at the hothardware review here ( http://hothardware.com/Articles/Over...cessor/?page=5 ) you can see that at 1.325v the processor's power consumption tends to increase 5 watts or so with every 100 mhz.
