Yeah, but furmark just renamed their executable "etqw.exe" to bypass the issue

But, even with watercooling(although the VRM's are under a heatsink), they still reach 117c in a Furmark torture test.

and for the third time, i did not pull that pic off the web. i took a picture of a magazine page, uploaded it to imageshack and linked to it.

i never said 50% was a fact. stop nitpicking dude. you know the 4850 runs hotter (at least on its stock cooler compared to a 9600GT stock cooler) and therefore should have a more beefy heatsink.

isn't that "normal"? idk i just had the feeling VRM's got really hot, but it wasn't a problem for them... like capacitors rated for like 150 degrees..

Nah, the 48xx VRM's run very hot compared to other cards. It's not usually a problem because games aren't as voltage hungry as Furmark! Plus, I believe the Voltera VRM's are fairly high quality.

But, I remember there being a few problems with peoples card breaking down as they stuffed a 4870 in a poorly cooled case, played Crysis and found the VRM's had fried!

Also, people were having massive overheating issues when they moved their 3870 aftermarket heatsink onto their 4870, the memory and VRM's were cooking.

geez... makes me kinda happy i just chose a nice cool running 9600GT.

aren't those Volterra VRM's the ones the GTX 2xx over-voltage-capable-cards had? or a different model volterra VRM...

Yeah, the GTX's have Voltera's as well which can be changed to supply more volts. I have tried it on my 4870, but despite voltage apparently increasing, it simply gave me stability issues.

No idea why. It wasn't just me, there was a thread about raising the voltages on 4870's a while back and I don't think a single person had luck.

My guess would be that the voltage wasn't stable or fluctuated causing instability.

hmm, i wouldn't mind one of my 9800 GTX's has cooling issues that I cannot fix even though I RMA'd it Twice. Some cards will always have heating and cooling issues.

Just like how, even in the same model, some CPUs run hotter than others.

Also, That "Copper" 9600GT looks like its aluminium with bad lighting, just IMO.
