How the h*ll do I properly overclock this thing? so many features?
the bios has more features than I am familiar with and half of them I can't seem to change. my MOBO has a EZ over clock switch that is supposed to increase (FSB I think) 5% to 20% but i saw no difference in bios, cpuz or amd overdrive after changing this.

using amd overdrive doesn't seem to change anything permanently either.
the only thing that seems to have any permanent effect is changing the cpu multiplier in the bios this shows up in amd overdrive and cpuz.
started at 14x (2800mhz 26C-29C) now at 16.5 (3300mhz 23C-24C), no change to volts-1.3250
I haven't updated bios yet(after looking at msi website not sure how, i don't have a usb flash drive).
using 'core temp .99.04' .

Fsb is stuck at 200Mhz, bios says 240mhz but is grayed out. quick search didn't give great results for forums or any google guides. does anyone have my MOBO? any threads closely related to my overclocking? what programs should i be using to monitor temps and what not?

and when i use the "overclocking center" software that came with my MOBO I get a very anoying alarm sound as soon as i open it and if i change the FSB(base clock) it doesn't seem to have a permanat affect.

My digital camara is on vacation with my old lady, windows 7 seems to have a good snipping tool, what is the best way to ad screen shots(jpegs) to posts(thread guide anywhere?)

I guess my MOBO is pretty new, micorcenter just put them out yesterday, still haven't figure out how the side port memory works.

and how do I change my ram settings everything in bios there is grayed out too. ram looks like its only at 533mhz 'dram frequency'

LOTS of questions... should I make a new thread(s)?

Thanks in advance...

Avoid any auto clocking.

I personally dont like AOD. You can have it load the settings when windows starts up but beyond that nothing permanent.

MSI doesnt offer a GUI BIOS update for your board?(ill check into that as well)

Are you wanting to OC the entire computer or just the 720? If just the 720 then go with the CPU multi. 3.3-3.4GHz stock vcore is about the norms. You should be able to at least get it to 3.6GHz and top out around 3.8GHz.

For screen shots i use photobucket.com

533MHz means your running at 1066. Go to your ram manufactures website and see what to set the volts at and then up the divider to 800Mhz.

If you need more help just keep posting.

Heres the latest BIOS update for your mobo you have listed in your sig system.
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=do...1&prod_no=1739

Before flashing and updating the bios make sure that is indeed your exact mobo.

Edit - also about the side port. Its 128mb, you can increase its memory by having it take a portion of your ram. These settings should be available somewhere in the BIOS, possibly in the the header chipset.

Yeah i downloaded that zip earlier

but still not really sure exactly how to install the new bios, msi directions aren't too clear. i don't really want to crowd my case with a floppy drive (unless i have too), i guess i'll wait until i buy a usb flash drive to try out readyboost, and then i'll figure out how to update my bios with that.

so i should increase my multiplier until my cpu is at 3.4ghz with stock volts and not worry about any other changes like FSB.
or should i increase the multiplier until it fails? cpu seems to be running pretty cool although it has mostly been at idle.

and increase my ram to 800mhz packaging said ram was 1.9v, cpuz says it's at 1.5v now. checking ocz for recommendations

i have a photo bucket whats the best format to post a pic.

Matters how high of an overclock you want. Your going to have to play around with it a bit. See if you can get 3.3GHz on stock volts. If so start upping the volts from there on up. Such as 1.4v for 3.6GHz. With good cooling some users are going upwards of 1.5-1.55vcore for daily use. I myself like to keep it milder for daily use.

I would play with the multi first to see what settings you like and also to get a stepping for the CPU. Then, if you want to set it back to stock settings and play around with the clock freq. This will be more difficult because there are far more variables.

Just got the random BSOD not sure why couldn't read everything before it restarted.

cpu at 3300mhz 200mhzx16.5 at stock 1.325v about 25C

this a 24/7 computer so i will need to increase my cooling by at least three fans and maybe a new cpu cooler before i go crazy

looking at this " !!~AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE OC Club~!! "thread
http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/47...x3-720-oc.html
looks like someone is at 3600 with the stock cpu cooler but it also looks like everyone over 3300 has increased their vcore

Dont worry about BSOD its all part of OCing. Start upping the vcore if you want to go higher, also always stress test with programs like OCCT, prime 95, intelburntest, ect.. Mattering on your average ambient temps would i suggest any big steps in the upping the vcore. I could see 3.6GHz on stock cooling if you had pretty low ambient air temps and cool air circulation in your case.

Youre gonna have to post it in PHP format.
