That's awesome, I just might.

edit: (rather than post AGAIN)

I've been thinking about this. I think it's the way I want to go. I still haven't bought the 4x4s I had planned to use for the legs. What do you guys think of using metal rods instead? It would let the monitor stand match a little better, and I could try some other tricks with rods too. Any fun ideas?

Parts! Parts! Parts!

I just got the last box in about 15 minutes ago. It had one of my fans, the DVD-RW, thermometer, some other stuff.

Here ya go. This is what will be inside the case.

One more redesign. I did this for a couple reasons:

First, I decided to make the switch to metal for the legs, for multiple reasons. I'm not comfortable with the 4x4s. As the title says, I'm building this desk to be portable. That means I want it to be easy to take with me whenever and wherever I move. 30" 4x4s don't lend themselves well to that end.

What I've decided to go with is inspired by the monitor mount linked earlier in the thread(here). The legs will screw in and out so that the desk itself is only a piece of wood with various metal pieces on the bottom.
Also, because having a 'back' to the desk would make it unwieldy, I'm going to use the equal-sized pieces to overlay the construction bits so that I don't have screws and such on the top of the desk. I don't know if I explained that part well...but you'll see what I mean when I'm done with this.

Since the case for the computer is a square(24"x24") I can simply turn it if I wish to change the direction the fans flow.

There are 2 250mm fans in there, one for intake one for exhaust. I want the exhaust to go the same direction the PSU exhaust blows out.

The one fan on the side is to take advantage of the positioning of my portable air conditioner and suck in a little of the cooled air to add to the flow.

BEGINNING WORK ON IT!

I plan to do most of this today.

So first I'm gluing some boards together, laying on some liquid cement.

I'm about to put on the last layer and press them together.

Here are the boards layed out and drying. After posting this I'm gonna go finish that part and give em a half hour to bond.

And here's my little brother helping me out. The pipes are bought are all rather dirty, as pipes are wont to be. I tasked him(and paid ) to remove the caps, stickers, and rinse off the outside of the pipe so that it was no longer sticky.

paying him $20

And the guy in these next pictures loves playing with the dremel

Here we've finished the 2x6 segment

Next is the 2x4 segment with the shelf displayed as it will be on it. The shelf will hang below.

And because he loves the dremel, grinding off the end of some screws that turned out to be a little too long...
