Im working on an xbox 360 and it turns on then lights up green then goes to two red lights 1 and which is overheating error i dont have the origanal fan plugged in, is that why its not working
post #2 of 23
That means the GPU is overheating. I would remove the heatsink and apply new thermal paste to the GPU and then perform an X-Clamp fix on the GPU heatsink.

yeah i know why but could not having a fan plugged into the xbox cause this i just have a 120mm sitting on top of the heat sinks
post #4 of 23
Not having the fan plugging in isn't going to cause it to automatically overheat.

i am sorry to say that. but that's wrong... the gpu in the xbox360 has no heat detector. the cpu is the only heat monitored chip in the xbox..

U will have to take off that ****ty xclamp **** M$ use.. redo thermal paste on both and then use the repair kit.

Also if u have a heatgun u might want to use that. u will have to isolate all the components and then work on the gpu for like 1-2 minutes and when it's really really hot.. just touch it down a little bit and let it cool for an hour or two.

now apply thermal paste. put xclamp, do 12v fan mod if u like.
then u r fine to run.

cheers

Um, you have no idea what you're talking about. The CPU is rarely at fault when the console overheats. The console overheats because the solder balls lose contact with the motherboard because of the motherboard flexing.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. I created an entire thread on this, as well as an entire thread about 360 consoles on this forum.

The GPU is what is overheating. Not the CPU. When you do an X-Clamp fix, you apply it to BOTH, but the GPU is the one that is almost 100% of the time causing the problem.

Please stop typing like you are sending a text message.

Please read the rules.

That means it is overheating. If you performed the X-Clamp on the GPU and CPU, loosen the screws a small bit on each screw, on the bottom of the board where you apply the X-Clamp fix, and it should work.

It usually overheats like that after doing an X-Clamp when the screws are too tight.

It has nothing to do with if the chip is heat monitored or not. I'm stating the GPU is overheating. Are you telling me that just because it isn't heat monitored that it's impossible for a chip to overheat?

You obviously have NO CLUE what you're talking about then if you think the GPU in this case isn't overheating. It's overheating because the screws are too tight.

Stop writing like an idiot. Read the rules and come back and post when you learn how to write properly.

OP, please do not listen to morons who cannot even type properly or make a legible sentence. The GPU and CPU both can overheat. If the lights come on without a few seconds, the chips are overheating and your X-Clamp fix is screwed on too tight.

Loosen the screws, and it should fix itself.
