Fallout 3 Random Freezes

Hey everyone,

Im sure everyone's heard about this and personally I am getting tired of having to Ctrl-Alt-Del and restart my game everytime it freezes.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I've googled it but to no avail. I tried installing the newest patch, but it doesnt seem to install properly or something, not entirely sure.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Update your audio codecs.

Try playing in Windowed Mode.

I've never encountered any problems with freezes. Always just CTD's. There's a thread here somewhere where I listed all the fixes I've come across for FO3. Audio/video codec exception list, update drivers, patch game, .NET update, probably more...

how do you go about updating audio/video codecs and which ones do i need to update?

Also, I've noticed the ffdshow exception fix although i can't seem to find my ffdshow folder, any ideas?

I found mine under my start menu. Click on the config shortcut for each I believe... I'm at work so I can't check to provide more details.

If all doesn't work. I would suggest trying to play with only 8 gigs. I never had problems running it when I had SLI'd 9800GT's, so I would imagine it wouldn't be a video card drivers problem. Also, try with your cards not OC'ed.

I know I'm going to have to reformat my hard drive soon enough so I'm going to have to do this whole thing over again haha. Oh well what are you gonna do? lol

Hopefully I can get my saved game file for backup

what do you mean only 8Gbs? For my Ram you mean?
And my video cards are currently not overclocked, i simply forgot to update the information on my rig

Sorry about that. It was a typo. I meant try playing with only 4 gigs, or doing a MemTest as well. Also to get to your saved games for fallout 3. It's in something like *Your Name*/Documents/My Games/Fallout 3. Not sure if that's fully correct, but that's how you get to them.
