i7 920 Gigabyte x58 Extreme OC advice - Page 3

There are a few bugs in gigabyte BIOS's which I have experienced. For example,

1. sometimes it switches off for few seconds when I save my settings with F10 and then turns on.

2. most of the time the post is very slow but higher overclocks typically post 3 times. I have no idea why it triple posts.

So, it may just be another bug.

I've mentioned this before so I will again. Check out some of the Gigabyte board reviews. They ALL had trouble getting past 3.9ghz. It's most likely the board and not the chip.

And you can't run 1.5v 24/7. My suggestion is sell the board and get something else if your goal is 4+.

yeah. I think this is what I have concluded as well. I am hitting a wall with the mobo stability. My chip seems to be a good batch.

are you talking about vcore or vtt? 1.5 vcore should be fine 24/7, right? 1.55 is the max per intel spec.

No it's not, IMO. And you are correct, 1.55vcore is intel's limit, but on air, you are playing with fire.

You all forget about cooling the motherboard. Add some angle brackets to the case and direct some fans to blow on the motherboard. I have encountered this problem over and over for overclocking. Everyone forgets about the motherboard.

It will work. Go for silent fans to blow on the motherboard.
