i just recieved the kit..and i have no idea where to start..also, from the pictures taken from other ppl who are also using this set, those 2 screws that holds the mounting plate+xiggy together, are u guys using the 2 screws that came with the xiggy for the intel mounting plate? if someone can giev a tutorial here would be great, i've never used a mounting/ bolt thru kit before..all these screws/ washers are driving me insane. thanks.

oh yea, you got the mounting kit from me too huh?

well, there are instructions on how to use the mounting kit. though the only problem i see with it is that you'll need to shorten those rods as i know that they're too long.

you just gotta use the washers and nuts to connect them directly to the mobo. BUT if you do have a backplate, you might be better off getting some shorter screws and screwing it directly into the backplate instead as thats what most of them did... let me find the pictures that another member did using that mounting kit.

EDIT: here are pictures from iandroo

and some notes:

for future reference for other buyers of your bracket. it is screwed onto the heatsink by the stock screws for the LGA775 push-down lock bracket. the screws for the w/c'ing kit you supply is about 1" or so too long. needs to be cut.

it was kind of a butt to install the thing. the nut inbetween the bracket and the mobo keeps coming loose.

oh also, the screws you included do NOT fit the am2 backplate so it wasnt used. it was installed by nut washer - mobo - washer nut - bracket - spring washer gold nut.

I kept my original mobo backplate on for support. Didn't really wanna leave it out but it does make the mounting a little different. It still worked out ok, it's definitely holding tight. I also cut the screws nafljhy sent cause as he said, they are too long otherwise.
I did use the 2 screws that came originally with the heatsink mounting kit for the custom mounting bracket, they work like they should.

Whelp, I just installed mine. It was sort of a PITA to un-manage all my cable management to get the mobo tray out for access. I would recommend removing the mobo if you have a removable tray, but I'm sure it's doable if you don't have that option. I never needed to access the back of the motherboard, if any of you are worried about that.

A quick rundown of the install procedure for me:

What you'll need-
  • A xiggy
  • The Intel mounting kit that came with your xiggy, for the little screws
  • Four 6-32 x 3/4" screws.
Find these in any hardware store. Just ask them for "6-32's" and they'll know what you mean. You want them 3/4" long. Mine cost 9 cents apiece.
  1. Get easy access to the cooler.
  2. Remove the cooler, remove all thermal paste.
  3. The standard AM2 mounting bracket is held in with four phillips-head screws. Remove them and the plastic bracket comes off without any trouble.
  4. Use the screws that came in a little bag with your xiggy --- you did keep your intel kit, didn't you?--- to attach the plate to the xiggy. Screw it in from underneath.
  5. Apply thermal paste, etc. Set the xiggy on the CPU and drop your 3/4" 6-32's through the holes. Eyeball the lineup, then use a large jeweler's screwdriver to tighten them.

Be sure to keep track of your old mounting hardware, if you ever want to sell your mobo.

Results:

Booted up, loaded up, let the computer run for a bit.

Temps at idle are down 7 degrees to 32/33, 100% load temps are down 8 degrees to 47, with the exhaust fan on low. Of course, my temps should go down a few more points as my AS5 sets.
