First Time Builder Would Like Suggestions

Hey guys thanks for looking

I have bought an AMD Phenom II 940 and MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard. I also have an Antec 900 gaming case and 1.5 tb seagate hdd..

I would like suggestions on the remaining items. I have an idea of either what I want to spend, or what I want (eg 8gb ram) and if you can suggest something good to fit in. Let me know if spending a little more would help on any item, thanks.

1. Power Supply - Thinking about $90 - $100 unless a good one for a good price is found.

2. Heatsink/CPU fan - I have no idea a good price range or style/type . Any input is appreciated.

3. Ram - 6gb or 8gb of ddr2 1066 -

4. Dvd/cd/ lightscribe optical drive - $25 - Future upgrade to blu ray drive/burner but not anytime soon

5. Video Card -- I have penciled in $200 for my card but I see the Sapphire 4890 OC on newegg for 265. Please let me know what you think of that in terms of value and maybe future upgrade to Crossfire

not the cheapest but they are good OC'ers and if you plan to overclock then you should just stick with 4gb there is really no reason to get anymore than that IMO for right now

I wanted to start playing games a lot. I have COD4, Unreal Tournament 3, Tiger Woods Golf, and Age of Empires 3. I'd like this system to be ready to play them full blast.

I saw 4x1gb Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 with a fan on craigslist for $70. Do you think that is good memory? And is 4x1gb as good as 2x2gb?

I'd rather get a good deal on it if I can, but I'm willing to spend more if I need to.

+1 all solid choices.

for GPU, if you'd like to stay in budget, i'd suggest the 4870 1gig... i have one and it'll run COD4 1680x1050 maxxed and run max frame-rate 80% of the time (if airstrike lands on my feet i drop to like 45fps)... if you're find with breaking the budget, the 4890 should scream.

I cant decide between the MSI 4890 OC 1gb for $237 from Superbiiz.com or the HIS 4890 1gb for $240 from newegg.

I added the PSU, Cooler, and RAM to my order, if I can get any feed back on those two cards I will make a decision and order.

So far the total with those 3 plus acard is $455, plus the $230 spent on the board and CPU. Less than $700 for what I am hoping is going to be a Beast of a machine.

I would personally go with the HIS from newegg simply because newegg is proven for its service and shipping speed. You really can't go wrong with them, and for $3, it's worth it IMO.

Overall, you're going to have a really nice rig, a 4890 paired with a PHII 920 is going to blaze through almost anything.

EDIT: You can always overclock the card yourself to match or surpass the superbiiz card's speed.

it will be a very nice system as for the MSI is a pretty good card Robilar has 2 of them and seems to like them, here is the link to them.....

I would personal go with the MSI over HIS but that is just me

Edit: another good one to go with would be XFX they seem to be great OC'ers and they have that warranty that cant be beat

Ok I went with the MSI 4890 and ordered. The reseller rating for superbiiz.com seemed good and having it overclocked already will help.

Do I need to find a GPU cooler or should the stock be OK?

How much of a difference is a Sound card going to make over the stock sound?

And now to find your noob overclocking center for the memory and PHII940
