A loose wire could still be attached inside the PSU, just maybe part of it is protruding into the fan area causing the noise.

RMAs from EU would normally take between 5-7 business days. There is always an option though where you can avoid down time. You could always ask our customer service for an Express RMA, where we can send out the replacement first rather than you sending the unit first, then once received, only then we can send out the replacement.

The version is 2.4.5065, the previous release I had, was showing the same weird numbers. And yes the first is idle, the second is load. 300W isnt a huge load, but it should be hitting 90% eff on such load either way. And I can't update firmware for some reason, there are only 2 devices listed Corsair Commander and H80/100i (which I don't have) and when I'm trying to update Corsair Commander it says - Status: Corsair Commander failed to reset.

So i took my PSU out of the case to look for any loose wires that would interfere with the fan but i couldnt see any through the casing of the PSU. After puting it back in i lay the case on the side and boot the PC up to see if the fan is indeed spinning. Right after i hit the power button the fan would spin right away for a few seconds and then stop making no sounds. When i got to windows i run Furmark for a few minutes to see what would happen then and soon after id experience this: http://youtu.be/E8WkThBzFL8 The fan is in fact spinning but it keeps stopping and trying to spin again at which point its making this annoying sound. You can clearly see and hear that the sound only occurs after the fan has stopped moving and then trying to start to spin again. Once its spinning the sound is gone. What are the chances that this fan will stop working altogether? Should i RMA this unit or just live with it?

Sorry for the black bars in the video i dont know why would youtube cut it like that. The video plays in full size when i open it with VLC.

Do you mind trying the beta version? Corsair Link beta version 2.5.5145. I would suggest that you uninstall the older version before installing the new one. Also, I didn't know that you have the Link Commander, so do you have the PSU connected to the Commander or directly to the USB header on the MB? If you have it plugged in to the Commander, try to by pass it and connect the PSU to the USB header and see if the Power In reading in Link will get corrected. Btw, is the system stable? are you experiencing some problems with it?

x-Predator is right on this, get the unit replaced. It's the fan controller that is causing the noise. Submit an RMA and let me know the ticket # so I can help out to speed thing up when processing your RMA.

So yeah I installed RC version, now it shows 89% efficiency on 125W draw (on secondary side) which is very nice, but when I launch Furmark +XTU it shows that you invented a perpetuum mobile, efficiency fluctuates wildly, hitting some figures as high as 123% [sic!]. I'm not sure if Corsair Link uses CPU in some manner, and there are some synchronization issues maybe, at high loads?

And no, now that you mentioned it I dont have a Corsair Commander, but its one of the 2 devices that are listed in update firmware dropdown, the other being H80i/H100i which I also don't have. The USB dongle is connected to the USB header directly, and I tried switching headers before (only have 2 on my mboard), to no result.

The system is stable, but I'll run it at stock, just to confirm.

Update: So yes I ran the system at stock and basically at idle it shows perfectly viable 88% eff at 124W, when I run Furmark with a draw of about 280W the figures fluctuate from 90 to 93% eff, but when I run XTU or x264 benchmark all the circus comes back to town, the efficiency graph looks like a sine with majority of readings showing 65% efficiency figures and occasional 100%+ readings.

Also there is no update firmware option in this RC version, am I right?

listen to rep joseph..rma the unit and get something better that atleast has a manual fan control option that doesn't require software..

@ rep: does the ax 860 have the fan select mode button switch?

At least we know that the system is stable.. so I'd suspect that the Link SW is the one throwing off inconsistent values based on those info. One question, when you run XTU, you said your efficiency were ranging from 65% to 100%, what are the Power In and Power out values when you run XTU or x264?

Yes, that is right, the RC version will not allow you to flash FW within the SW, it does it automatically for you when you install the SW.

thanx..what full kit is the correct 1 for a red sleeved kit?
@ op..why not send unit in for testing..or just uninstall the link software and do a clean install from scratch..literaly everything from hardware to software..unplug the link usb cable aswell..see if system is better afterwards you started from scratch..i repeat start at the root if nessasary..rebuild whole setup if needed..cabling management..correct wires to correct components..dont use to many molex adapters to power gpu/hds or dvd..
do anything and everything..

but rep has stated ..please put in rma request and post ticket in here or pm him so he can help..

So, I just snagged an AX760 on sale for $125 MIR! What a steal eh?
I came from a Cougar RS650W and switching from non-modular to a full modular makes so much difference.
No more packed side-panel to squish in. biggrin.gif

I've gotta say, the 'zero RPM until 70% load' system is amazing.
