I am looking to build my first computer soon and need some help from those that have done it before. I have not been up to date with the new components that are out. My budget is roughly $1,500. I will be using the computer for gaming and occasionally school work.

Below is what I think will be good:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W

Need help with a graphic card. I currently have a Nvidia card in my Sony and never had a problem with that but never experience an ATI before.

awesome, get a 4890 with that crossfire board. I recommend a better psu, such as the corsair 650 or 750wtx. I'd use win7 as os to save some money. No point of buying vista at this time imo. Apart from that solid build.

That PSU is a good brand, i'd stick with it. As for the graphics card check out the 4980's but if you want to stay with nvidia get a GTX 280/285. Also you should go with a full tower case.

For $1500 you could go i7

Heres an example
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=15478427

Go with one 4890, or a 4870/GTX260 if you want to save some more.
Heres a few 4870s & GTX 260s
You could Xfire / Sli 4870s/260s with your budget

Thank you all for responding and Yogi for posting a sample i7 build. The 4890 seems to be a favorite so I will go with that. The review on Newegg about the i7 is amazing, not many negatives.

Anyone else have any experience with the i7 yet?

Core i7 build for 1,500 is easily attainable.
I'm building one for my cousin once he gets his College graduation money this summer. Same exact budget!
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=10037211
Feel free to use these parts in this wishlist as they are the best parts I came up with for the 1,500 budget.

Can you make the wish list public, please? You had it saved so I couldn't see it. Thanks you.

It's shared/public. I unshared it and shared again. Hopefully it works now.
Are you logged in to newegg?
I'll post the parts if you can't see it still.

You'll Never regret the speed of the SSD drive for booting/OS/APPS and then you can mirror the 2x640gb for redundancy that way none of your important info is ever lost (well unless you have the like 1 in a million shot that both drives in the mirror go bad at the same time.......)

why 4770 for a 1500 budget....why ? a 4890 is in the same performance, even better, same price, and opens the door to crossfire 4890'S
