do they do anything different? i used these sata's that are L-shaped on one end. plugged that end into the drive and tried all 6 with those 2. no luck.

assuming the drive is ok, is there anything you can think of that would cause the drive to have it's LED on, but that it wouldn't respond or open?

Ensure that RAID is not enabled on those ports in the BIOS.

Yeah, as others said, the purple ones are for RAID. Use the yellow ones. Maybe just plug em in the yellow ones then clear CMOS to make it easy.

if ur disk is stuck inside and wont open up, find a pin. There is a small hole beside the led, push the pin through it and it WILL open up, its made for siturations like these

is the optical drive getting detected in the bios?

if yes,.then (this may sound absurd but it happened to me once) check whether the drive is exactly horizontally screwed in and is not at an angle with the bay. even if the drive is little tilted then it may not function properly. another method of checking this out is to remove the drive from the case (keep cables connected) and place it on a flat surface like a table or floor and then try booting from it.

Try looking in the Bios to see if it is detected. Also try just reseating it inside the case and when you load up force open with a paper clip or something.

lol i duno what ALLLLL of u guys are saying either way, the dvd drive has NOTHING to do with it being conected to the mobo or not! lmaooo, all that has to be connected is the power cable

it works! but might not be all good news, but at least i found the problem. i switch the power cables on the optical and hard drive. so we'll have to see if the harddrive works with the other cable though.

/fingers crossed

/crossed for this windows 7 iso disc i made too, hope that works.

here goes nothing.
