$2,400 build

Thread Starter
After lots of mixing around, I've finally settled on all of the parts. Please let me know what you guys think.

Mobo: EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 X58
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

CPU: Intel Core i7 920
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Cooling: Cooler Master V8
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Graphics: EVGA GTX285 FTW 1GB X2 SLI
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance
Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Power Supply: Corsair 1000W HX Series 12v
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

RAM: Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 1600MHz
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Optical: LG GGC-H20L LightScribe Blu-ray/HD-DVD Combo
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Total price: $2,401.95

Note: I play on 1920X1080 resolution. I'm buying from Amazon because of Newegg's tax and shipping (Amazon has none of both).

Now, despite the high price this is the biggest investment I've ever made (only in college), so I do not upgrade very often (my last build was over four years ago).

My biggest fear is that the Cooler Master V8 won't fit into the case because it is massive. Can someone confirm that it will fit without removing the side case fan or doing any modding? Also, is there anything else I might need for cable management other than cable/zip ties?

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!

Like others sad. Get a TRUE or even better a Megahalem and 3*4890 in CFX with a more ATI MB like ASUS or Gigabyte.

I suggest dropping the overpriced GTX-285's and going with 3x GTX-275's in Tri-SLI, it comes out $7 cheaper, and it will also outperform it by a lot. I also suggest getting a True cooler, it will outperform the v8 by a lot as well.

Since you are already getting the Corsair HX1000, it will fully support 3 of these cards easily, and your board is made for Tri-SLI.

I would say drop the Raptor and go with a RAID setup. It will run faster and be cheaper.

I also agree with this, I was going to mention that. 2x Seagate 500GB 7200.12's in Raid0 would be right on par with the velociraptor and it would be cheaper by about $80...and not to mention you'd have even more storage.

Or get 3! and ditch the 1tb drive (unless you really want a seperate storage drive).

What case did you say you were getting? I can recommened the HAF
