pow3rtr1p - I went with Intel because they run cooler than AMDs. I think the price of what you suggested is ~$240 at least. But that was just a quick skim through of those sections. I'm sure someone could dig through that and find gems. The CPU/Mobo I picked is $180 not including MIRs.

i think u are mis informed about the temps on the amd 720 x3. mine after 12hrs on prime maxed at 36c at 3.6 ghz. also i paid 200 for my cpu and mb. bought the mb open box. at ur price point i think it is def worth it to consider a 720.

on my cell right now but ill throw together a build when i get home in a bit.

I like the build, mostly good choices for a first time OCer.

What I would change,

-PSU; Corsair 550vx for $58.74 after $30MIR shipped free at Buy.com
-RAM; Definitely go with a 1066mhz kit. Most of the 800mhz kits don't OC well. -EDIT- Unless of course you have no desire to OC the ram using dividers, 1:1 will see you up to 400FSB no problem.
-HDD; That 320gb drive has a poor $:gb ratio; I'd suggest spending a little more on either a WD WD6400AAKS(~$64 shipped free) or WD6401AALS(~$73 shipped free)

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 - $62.99 ($25.00 mail-in and $5 off with promocode "EMCLSMR33"
I gotta go check those.

I don't think I'll benefit much from DDR2 1066 for a E5200. Maybe something that OC's past 400 fsb. I'm going to even get close to 400 fsb with the 5200. I'd be lucky to even get past 290 fsb.

I think you should look into AMD as well. They are very competitively priced for a Phenom II 720. The bang per buck is just overall good. Just trying to give you options.

For a budget build it's best to go with AMD. You will be extremely happy with the Phenom X3 720.

There's several good reasons on why the 4770's are selling like hotcakes on new egg.
They are fast, they are inexpensive, GDDR5 memory, 40nm process makes them easy to OC.

You can try the MSi or the Diamond, but i would wait till the XFX, Sapphire or HIS are back in stock.
Best of luck

lol i guess so i've never oc'd a 5200 i jsut know that i wish i had gotten 1066 instead of 1000 when i bought mine because mine rig doesn't like to run 4.0 and 10x400 but it is 24+ hour prime + IBT stable @ 500x8. And i think ram is my limit on the FSB it gets unstable about 508.

If you got an amd rig your 1000 or 1066 ram would allow a heafty oc

IMHO the tri core's are where its at now as long as they Phenom II

E5200 is not the best OCer and is kinda stripped down, wouldnt be much diff from your e7400 in sig at all except max clocks are lower generally

The 4770 looks promising but the only thing I don't like is that it's only a 128-bit.
