Cant change cpu fan speed.

For some reason my cpu fan will not change from ~1740 RPM, Ive tried changing the smartfan settings in the bios, and tried to change the speed using ntune and speedfan and no matter what i set it to the rpm doesnt change. The fan is plugged into the 3pin cpu fan header on the mobo.

Im thinking of getting a panaflo or ultra kaze and i want to be able to slow em down if they turn out to be too loud.

if you look correctly that fan doesnt have a yellow line (outer line on the 3 prong) which would allow you to change speeds.

hope that helped

check if you have that adapter pictured here somewhere in you cpu hsf's packaging:

if not, i would call that a cheap cpu fan hence it is given to you with the purchase of a retail 120mm that you can buy.

does you fan have 3 pin connector or 4 pin?

if its 3 pin, pwm wont change the fan speed

just get a fan controller, it will be a great investment

I second the fan controller rheobus, it is a very nice and quality controller but LEDs are bright, if that bothers you then you can cut pieces of electrical tape and cover them up.

just a suggestion
