It seems like the D0 i7 920's work like magic right up to 4ghz. north of that they share a vcore requirement similar to the C0 steppings.

Robilar, do you think running 1.235v is ok for 24/7 clocks? I've tried lowering the voltage little by little and this is the lowest it will take for 4GHz, anything lower than 1.235v and it will fail to pass linx for 20 passes.

temps are max 70*C running linx, folding is like 65-66*C max. Turbo mode is enabled, as well as HT.

that is very safe from a vcore perspective.

honestly though, I'd turn off HT. My games run faster without it (and so does 3dmark06, try running it with and without HT on).

unless you have a specific app that benefits from 8 cores, it just generates much heat.

well I fold, so if I was to turn HT off I could only run 2 vmware clients right? currently right now I have 4 running and it has all 8 cores @ 100% load.

and thanks for the clarification on the vcore. +rep if I could.

I'm currently prime testing 1.18 vcore at 4ghz. So far so good (3 hours into it).

This chip doesn't seem to blink. Every time I drop vcore by by .1, it just keeps going.

can some1 explain to me why do i need to lower the volts even if i hit the 4.0 on my default volts?

iam really new to OC and i dont wnana take chances with my system and especially i7 920

could u tell me if i just bump up the fsb to 200 and multiplyer to 20 = 4000

would i be safe with a THOR hammer with a scythe slipstream 120mm @110 CFM fan?

any help would be great and ROB great info reps if it was possible

also to the person who actually went to OC on to 4.5 on stock cooling why would u risk ur chip like that?

iam not doing 3.0 without proper cooling and ur doing 4.5 on stock?

any particular reason why u wanted to do that?

he's going on water cooling, that is just a test on how far he can take it on air, he did'nt even stress it.

ask for your question, use prime95 to stress and check temp for like 25 min everytime you make voltage adjustment, rinse and repeat until it's not stable anymore.

The lower the vcore, the lower your temps. The i7 chips run silly hot (especially with HT on).

20x200 is fine but you need to set vcore, ram voltage and qpi manually

set vcore to 1.25 (for now), ram to whatever your ram maker states (usually 1.6 or 1.65). Once you set the ram voltage, set the QPI to within .4 of the dram voltage (so if your dram is 1.65, set QPI to 1.25). QPI has to be within .4 of DRAM.

I can't say if the Thor's Hammer would be sufficient (although if you turn HT off, it might be).
