Foxconn A7DA/A7DA-S Owners' Club - Page 12

y'no what, i completely take back what i said about foxconn support. they gave me the BIOS, i told them it did nothing, they ignored me. Ive opened another ticket up ... ill see what happens.

still got same problems. ive also noticed that the northbridge multiplier option is convieniently missing from the manual ... hmm.

im waiting for OCUK to get in the new phenom II 555, snap one up, and see if either of those problems mysteriously disappear (im not really sure that board was intended for a sempron). if not its RMA time.

failing that, some poor unsuspecting sod on ebay can have it ....mwahaha

ok listen up, particularly Jkinney10

Ive coaxed another BIOS out of them. i think its a beta of some description as it dont follow the p03, p04, p05 shceme. They didnt give me any details about it, but im about to email them baack anyways.

The point of the matter is, IT FIXES THE MEMORY ISSUE!!!
My ram will work at 1333mhz at standard settings. They even seem to have added support for PC3-12800 (1600mhz). i tried my ocz on that setting and it worked at 1600mhz without any changes to voltage or timings, despite it being rated at 1333.
ive tried the overdrive memory benchmark, and there definately is a small increase in the numbers...

Also the overdrive GFX overclocking now works for my igp/sideport. no biggy, but nice to know it works now

now they just need to get their arses cracking on the northbridge multipler issue...

again this is for AM3 a7da series only
enjoy

edit: 1600mhz @ 1.9v 9-9-9-20 (stock 1.8v 7-7-7-20). cheeky bugger changed it without me noticing. thought it was too good to be true...

555's here, IT UNLOCKED , stable under windows, just started prime 95 as i speak
back to p03 bios, ill try later versions to see if unlock still works once 95 finishes (fingers crossed)

northbridge multi is still buggered :/. guess thats not so much of an issue noe with a be CPU. still, ill let them know...

only problem with unlock atm is that CPU temp probes are stuffed. apparently all cores idle at ~10.c and load at -256.C. maybe i should drop k1ngp1n a line...

Brand new to this forum, and to overclocking in general, so please don't be too hard on me! I have built several desktops, so my knowledge of building computers is fair, but I have never tried to overclock one. I just built one around a Foxconn A7DA-s 3.0 with a Phenom II x2 550 BE processor. I have two 2GB sticks of G Skill DDR3-1333 PC3-10666 memory. I am using the board to run a RAID 5 array, which is working great. I have read all 12 pages of this, and searched the net for some simple instructions on how to unlock and overclock my processor. I just re-flashed my BIOS to one the Foxconn tech support sent me to 8C2F1D13. I understand the principal of unlocking/overclocking, but I'm not real sure how to achieve it! I don't want to damage my hardware, so I'm asking for advice!!
Thanks, Newbie

In your BIOS, set ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration) to Auto. If your CPU can truly unlock, it should happen after you reboot. If not, then you're out of luck.

From reading this thread, I had already set the ACC to auto, and disabled CnQ. I guess that's as much as I can do? What about overclocking? I would like to push it a little harder, or at least understand how to! I didn't buy it with the intentions of overclocking, but figured since I have a large enough case for air flow, and bought a LARGE artic cooling heatsink and fan, that I would try to join the oc world. No biggie!
Thanks again, John

bugg25, core unlocking only "works" with the first bios release (P03). just install FOXliveupdate (came on the CD with the motherboard), and do a search online for BIOs updates. it should list P03, P04 and P05 (if P03 isnt listed, ill upload it here), then flash the p03. i know people say you shouldnt flash from windows, but ive not had any problems doing so.

once you've flashed: ACC>auto, coolnquiet>off, C1E>off, and possibly CPU voltage>+25mv

if you save all that and it doesnt boot, clear the CMOS, and do all of these settings again, as well as setting HT link multi to 8x

if the system posts, where it shows "AMD Phenom II x2 550", it should now show "AMD phenom II B50" and the core count should have gone from 2 to 4

thingemajib, do you know if RAID 5 will work with 03? My board came with 05 which didnt, so I flashed it to 04 which did. Then the tech guy sent me the 8C2F1D13 version. I have been using FOXlive, and it has worked fine (much easier than burning a boot cd with BIOS embedded into an ISO file) If 03 does not support RAID 5, or if there are any other bugs that you know of with tat version, is it possible to go back to another version after unlocking the cpu and it still be unlocked? Or will it go to what the new BIOS inputs are?
Thanks again, john

I guess mine will not unlock???

I attached a snapshot of CPU-Z after installing new BIOS (03) and setting the parameters as you said. Is there anything else you would do to step it up a little? Or am I better off just leaving it like it is?

Thanks for any help/advce anyone has!

John

with regards to the raid 5 thing, ive looked thorugh the D13 changelog, and cant see anything related to RAID from p03 onwards (changelog goes right from the very first beta), so i would assume if raid 5 worked before, then it should work with p03

as for unlocking ... hmm. ive got the 555 as opposed to the 550, but i cant see why it should be any different.
i do have "quiet boot" under Advanced BIOs features disabled, but thats only so i can see the normal POST messages instaed of a huge foxconn logo on startup.
try that, and see what the BIOS detects the CPU as

and the p03 imo is quite buggy, but useable. the major thing is that is refuses to rum RAM past 1066mhz, but thats the only version that will unlock it, and updating after will relock the cores (if you manage to unlock them in the first place...)
