4. Did not look at the chip itself, LOL so dunno.
ok i did all that.. so you say that after pressing F3, the pc shuts down,, ok, the you said that sometimes the pc does not even beets and not boots, so you press and hold power button until it shuts down and the turn the pc on again and did the fingerscrosss thing ? Ok here,

@ Step 3. Disable Cool n Quiet + C1e only - leave TLB on - sorry for that.
@ Step 6. Set Core releaser to Auto. Save changes and exit.

This should also work, I tested it to stabilize my OC just now. Maybe you can add 1 more step to the CPU voltage and/or set multiplier down 1 notch to see if the hidden core is just crippled meaning it needs more voltage to work. But this is just a theory.

Will post another screenshot that shows how it looks when you unlock it successfully.

Edit;

Here it is.

PS. excuse the engineer's grammar lol.

@thethingemajib

Looking @ your rig, your 555 is unlocked and stable @ 4ghz? How much Volts did you pour in? How are your temps? Can you give me tips on how you stabilized that high OC?

Mine gets to only 3.6 stable with 1.55V. The temps doesn't go beyond 50c but since the core sensor freaks out when unlocked, I have to estimate and add five to that number. So, I think I reached the temp treshhold on my HDT S1283. That means no more volts for me.

Any tips on stabilizing without vcore adjustments would be very appreciated.

1.55v, and it is barely stable. The most ive done is a bout 3 hours of prime at that (not because it crashed, im just too impatient to to a full 8 hour test). 4.025ghz and it will fail in about 10 mins.

Thats my general rule of thumb as well. at 4ghz, on my zalmans normal fan settings (~1500rpm), it will overheat and crash if i start priming. Upping the speed to about 2100rpm keeps the temps in check at around the 50-55.c mark (that being the TMPIN1 temp, without the +5.c estimation), but is makes a fair bit of noise. Another reason why i usually dont have it sitting at that speed (see below)

tbh, i think i got very lucky with this chip. I rarely run it a 4ghz (i should change my sig, but it is capable of doing 4, and i dont use this site much so i cba). Usually it sits at 3.85ghz, 1.4v. It actually needs 1.425v to run prime like this, but for everyday use/gaming its pretty solid.

Obviously, unlockable chips vary, and what works for me may not work for you. Phenoms love voltage, but hate heat. If you can keep the temps really low (ie, Watercooling), then you could get away with (eg) 1.6v. If 3.7ghz appears to be the absolute limit, then concentrate on maxing out the ref clock/northbridge/ram. My northbridge maxes out at about 2.5ghz, and that does help overall system performance. Probably a not too dissimilar jump from a 3.7 to a 3.85ghz cpu boost

im actually thinking about downclocking it further, as with my current OC, coolnquiet doesnt work

edit: on a different note, how far does it clock as a triple core? If the limit stays at 3.7, perhaps look at getting some better cooling. If it clocks further, then it is most likely a defect holding the 4th core back

I'm super glad it worked(as I now get to unlock my 720). although I think I'm gonna wait till release to install the BIOS, a few weeks ago I tried flashing my fathers board and it failed and wouldn't post so I'm kinda scared about doing BIOS flashing now
As well fox liveupdate doesn't work 100% in windows 7 x64, I can't flash my BIOS from a file I have to download it from the server. It's really odd, but oh well.
