Buying an i7 for only gaming is a waste if you're concerned about money, unless you're using multi GPU, and even then a S775 quad would be fine in most cases. Yes, quad SLI does stutter. Maybe you can't see it, but its there. All SLI/CF setups stutter somewhat.
Although, I'm not saying having pointless hardware a bad thing though. Each to his own, but do realize that most people are into the whole bang for buck thing, hence why they say certain things are pointless.
there is a huge difference between best bang for the buck and wanting top of the line gear. if someone were to say "i7 is the best peformance for the dollar" then id say maybe you wold have an argument for them being wrong...but to say " i7 is not the top of the line processor" you would be wrong...I'm just using that as an example.. What constitutes a waste of money? 100 bucks to you isn't 100 bucks to me..ect ect. If someone buys parts for the performance or just to have the best and greatest what is the difference really..its the same hardware regardless of the reasons for ownership.
You just said, every dual gpu card stutters...even if you can't see it...well then im gonna make the statement that every gpu stutters, even though you can't see it...because if i can't see it, and its not causing a performance hit, then it doesnt matter at all.
My blanket statement as you call it, is warranted toward people who are bashing others for buying good hardware. And the only difference why my statement is ok, is because the people who buy good hardware do not deserve the critiques and comments people are giving them. The people who bash them for no other reason then owning good hardware deserve it.
My system is what people would consider over the top, but you know what, even though its fast and powerfull, when the new graphics cards come out, ill be selling my cards and buying two of whatever comes out. You may say its a waste of money, to me its not, i enjoy the hobby and i already have everything else, so why not. I could make a justification that everything i own is a waste of money..i could have kept my acura but wanted a bmw, waste of money? maybe to you..did i need to replace my 720p plasmas when 1080p sets came out? No i did not, but i wanted to. Waste is not defined as just a broad term, its individual specific. and for me its not a waste, so i will not judge others based on my definition of wasting money.
