2900XT 512 or GTS 250 512 - Page 3

Along with what everyone else is saying, you have an 850Watt PSU so what if the 2900XT requires a lot of power, lol.
Maybe because you won't at such a low res? 1024 is a CPU dependent resolution. Up the resolution into a more GPU dependent resolution and you've got some more FPS.

I know I can power the thing , it's just I want it to be able to play any game well.
I tried loading up cryostasis demo and it was super choppy and had all these graphic glitches.
I don't want that to be happening.

EDIT - I'll try bumping up the res.

Bumping up the res to 1280 by 1024 just kinda made everything look really glitchy.

Oh , and it made everything invisible , now the whole game is ?

Is it worth it ?
My res is 1024 by 768 and I play COD 4 , Crysis etc.
I get like 24 FPS with my 2900XT , will the performance be drastically increased ?

Thanks.
Well, I used to have the what I believe was near the best HD2900XT ever made, the model with 1gb of GDDR4. Compared to the 8800 GTS 512 (as you already know essentially the same card as the GTS 250) it was kind of horrible.

Don't get me wrong, it was a powerful enough card in its own right, and even beat my G92 (which was overclocked to GTS 250 performance levels) in TES:Oblivion. But in just about every other game it was no contest.

What I don't get is why you are limiting yourself to the GTS 250. Is it a price range thing? Having owned all the cards we're talking about I can firmly recommend picking up a 4870. You can get them used for not too much over $100 if you really shop around.

I highly doubt it, it would be a good jump in performance.

Hello, have you updated your drivers lately? If so did you use a driver cleaner? Your gpu should perform really well at that resolution!

Good Luck!

You get 24fps at that resolution with what settings. Even a 2900XT should be more then enough for almost any game for that resolution.
