So ya one of my buds told me some lady posted a picture she took on a website and like 100000 people looked at it and she made like $1000's, and i was wondering if this was true or fake. I searched it up and came up with this

http://www.webupon.com/Money-Making/...-Photos.547213

Now im just wondering is it worth it, or is it just another one of those stupid scams that make you sacrifice your artwork copyrights?

Well if the picture was mindblowingly good or extremely useful for application in commercial situations it may well have been bought to be used. It probably is worth trying to get a few images and submitting them and just see what happens. I would like to try that myself definitely in the future.

some of them are valid and legit. as far as if you will make any more or not though is another story. the ones I recognize are microstock sites so you would make about .20-1.00 everytime a photo sells. not when viewed but actually sells, at which point they have a royalty free license to use your image more or less how they please, as many times they please and all you get is your couple cents for the picture.
so to make money you have to have LOTS of pictures (many times in the order of a couple thousand), that are more or less perfect and hope they ahve some value to someone else. otherwise you might make just pennies if anything at all. don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say it isn't worth it as there are people out there who live off the money they make from doing this but it takes lots of work, lots of skill. though hell I do it myself figure if I took the picture might as well try to make some money off it though as I already took the picture but have yet to sell anything with them.

the ones I have heard of and currently use myself are bigstockphoto, dreamstime, shutterstock (haven't used but it is legit), istockphoto, fotolia, canstockphoto, alamy (again haven't used but is legit)
.

ya but does doing this compromise your photo copyrights Or do you sign the bottoms before you put them on the site?

you still own full copyright on the above sites that I mentioned. you are just giving them a non exclusive (though you can also do exclusive and usually get better pay) rights to license your photo for use.

only exception to the above kind of is alamy which can do both royalty free or rights managed. rights managed they have to pay for each use of the photo and the pay is dependent upon how they are going to use, how long they will use, and so on with your photo. either way though you still have copyright.

just remember though don't get your hopes up on making the big bucks, or for that matter any money at all. it's a tough biz anymore and with every joe blow getting a DSLR the competition can get fairly heavy. this is at least speaking for the microstock agencies I refered to.

the other ones were they pay you based upon how many page views you get I can't comment as I haven't done it or for that matter even heard of them before you.

either way wish you the best of luck
