What kind of problems? Are the drives out of warranty?

still in warranty, and just very poor performance, both of the 640's i have are doing this while my TB drive is fine, so i am thinking something is wrong with the drives firmware

your post got me curious because i have 2 of the 500 gig black drives in raid 0,
unfortunately there are no firmware updates available for that drive from WD .

I know this is an old post but WD's non RAID edition hard drives have been crippled with a disabled TLER which will cause problems when in RAID. Do not use RAID 0 and if you use RAID 1 5 10 or other, make sure you have the latest edition of Intel Rapid Storage Technology since their old version has a lot of problems with RAID (unreliable, slow, BSOD, crashes)

I hope this helps,

Neo
