Pentium M - 400 or 533 FSB?

Thread Starter
I can get the 1.73 Pentium M with 533 FSB or the 1.8 Pentium M with the 400 FSB. Which one will perform better? I'll be using pc4200 ram, not that the DDR533 really matters. How much of a difference will the FSB make?

Both will do you fine, but 533FSB will give you more performance gain over 400...

The 533's clock radically better than the 400's, not only in terms of max overclock (the differences may be minimal, tho) but especially in the way of max FSB (this will give you the biggest performance boost). The 7x5's (400 mhz FSB) max out at around 160-170 mhz FSB. The 7x0's can hit upwards of 250 mhz FSB. Go for the 533!!!!

I'll be dropping a P-M into an ASUS z71v barebone laptop, do you think the bios will let me overclock? Anyway, so if I had to choose I should pick a 1.73 Ghz P740 over a 1.8 Ghz P745?

Yes take the 740 over the 745 any day, overclocking or not, the 533fsb will help out.

But as noaffinity said, the 740 Overclocks alot better.
