TRUE better temps than Megahelems and cheaper?

Thread Starter
I've started digging through the reviews on the Prolimatech Megahelems and it turns out the TRUE still has a slight performance edge and is cheaper to boot.

I've seen a number of members here posting that it beats the TRUE but have not yet seen any evidence to support this?

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?...hlbnRodXNpYXN0

The TRUE is actually cheaper as the Megahelems does not include a fan. NCIX.com has the Megahalems with 1366 mounting for $80 CAD and the TRUE with 1366 mounting kit "and" fan for $79 CAD.

Plus, the TRUE that HardOCP used was not lapped or pressure modded (which we all know makes a world of difference with the TRUE).

This testing was done with an i7 (C0) overclocked to 3.6ghz with both coolers using a single Thermaltake Thunderblade.

Its the only review I could find directly comparing the two coolers on an i7 platform. The other reviews have any comparison to the TRUE absent (by design?)

This Legion review has inverted results (using a Q6600 at 3.6ghz):

http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=808&p=2

Consider however, that HardOCP actually mods their chips with thermal probes embedded in the surface, I am more comfortable with their testing than Legion (which has published several suspect reviews of late) They even somehow have the CM V8 ahead of the TRUE.

Here is Benchmark Reviews as well (with i7 at 3.6ghz):

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=7

They also have the Megahalems slightly ahead (and amusingly enough the V8 way behind).

It think it may need to be closer to the 4Ghz range to start to pull ahead, I could be wrong though.

I figured they'd be close. The designs are pretty similar.

I think they lucked out like I did and got a TRUE with a pretty flat base. I didn't get a huge temp drop by lapping mine, unlike the 10C or so drop most people claim.

This is how HardOCP determines the cpu temp.

Until other reviewers start doing this, I think their test will be the most accurate.

not even close....

the review you lined had the true using 2x 2000rpm fans!

lol the mega had 1x 1600rpm fan and it was still barely beat...

for a more professional consistant review read....
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...=285&Itemid=62

dont be bitter, the TRUE had a nice run, the thermalright team now made a better product, dont hate....

You must be reading a different review than the rest of us. Fact of the matter is that HardOCP has a much more accurate way of reading temperatures in their testing than any other site. They were also using the same fan in the test. Read it again. I also fail to see how the benchmark reviews test is "more professional and consistent"
