Hey i know theres probably quite a few of you coding genius' out there. So! thats why i came here to ask =D

I'm the technology chair of my student organization (Circle K International).. its the world's largest collegiate student organization based on community service.

But anyway, what i have planned to do is do a log-in system for members to check on personal info like something we have called the MRP which shows each members current standing towards the next recognition level (Bronze -> Silver -> Gold -> Platinum). Of course i dont want this information to be public so i want to do a login system which opens a new page or maybe a popup window that shows THEIR own information.

My cousin pointed me in a direction of using PHP app's but anyone have any suggestions?

It will probably be easiest to use a precoded content management system (CMS). I would suggest looking into drupal or wordpress. This would allow people to log in and view a personal panel, similar to what vB has with personal profile. You would have to change the access level so members can view other members 'profile pages'. I;ve never tried anything like that, but I'm sure you could modify it so only administrators can view other profiles or something similar.

Drupal can definitely accomplish this with its very granular permissions options as well as its flexibility (it's really a framework for a CMS out of the box).

much better/more efficient to code your own; drupal is FAR too huge and bulky for your simple needs; but if you don't know PHP, then Drupal will work...

It's a web application. You'll need a host that has support for PHP, Apache, and SQL (which most should have). Here's a couple links in case you're curious:

1) http://drupal.org/getting-started/before/overview
2) http://drupal.org/getting-started
3) http://drupal.org/Troubleshooting-FAQ
