The BIOSTAR T-Power I45 Club - Page 13

Hi there, I'm new to overclocking, just bought this Tpower I45 mobo to get some practice in on my E8500 chip, seems to go nicely up to 4.2Ghz.
I can push my PC6400 ram up to 1040Mhz, but the highest I've manage to get my FSB up to is 485 - and thats with a 8x ratio.
Any tips for a new guy trying to break a 4.2wall?

You actually got a really good clock there!
Welcome to OCN! Maybe post some cpu-z screenies and throw some voltage specks atv us.

Thanks for the warm welcome
Here's me with the 8.5x ratio timings
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...s534/test2.png
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...4/test2ram.png

My volts are the same for the 8.5 and 9 clock ratio.
NB Latch : 1333
Ram : Auto timings (5-5-5-15)

CPU : +0.3v
Ram : Auto
Chipset : +0.3
FSB : 0.25
Core 1,2 ref: 0.63
MCH : 0.59
CPU PLL : 1.6

The CPU, Chipset and FSB volts I increased on my own tests, everything else was taken from suggestions on this thread or links to similar threads. I'd +rep everyone in here so far, but probably end up banned or something

I haven't tried any 7.5 or lower ratios, and I don't have any luck with 9.5 ratio above 440FSB. My dream would be to hit a 4.5

The highest FSB I've achieved with these voltages is 500
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...534/500fsb.png
If only I could achieve this with a higher cpu ratio O.O

Ok, first take those ram timmings off auto and set them to specs and set ram voltage accordingly. Set configuration to #1 and drop your fam frequency ( divider ) down one notch and raise the cpu freq up 5mhz at a time and test with prime or occt.

hey wait a minute, I just helped you freeline you can't steal the next opportunity I have to shine! Joking, but it is funny you're the first person to speak up, I was going to earlier and haven't been on here to do so, good stepping up to help another new tpower owner!

Another thing, what stepping is the processor? is it a C0 or E0? I hate to beat that detail to death but I have both steppings and they are not even close to the same beasts...If you have a C0 you're already higher than I could get mine stable, however if you have a newer e8500 with E0 stepping...my hunch is you've got a way to go on maxxing out its' potential. The auto settings for the cas timings on the ram is fine IMO, however you definitely want to get the "right" configuration setting for the memory, for ME anyway and my memory only setting 2 or 4 will work, 1,3,5 are useless and either are unstable or a no boot, so that is definitely the biggest possible thing that seems incidental in the settings, your reference voltages are all good, also with 8 gigs (and assumably all memory slots populated) pushing the FSB particularly high will be difficult for the board...you will need a fair amount of voltage/cooling to that northbridge to keep it AND the memory stable. However, if you overvolt a p45 it just gets too hot and will lose stability, highest I EVER put in the chipset and actually had it help and not hinder my overclock was around 1.4 volts, much more than that just seemed to make it worse or not help at all. 4.5 is relatively easy (with a good cooler) and an E0 stepping, however, for just screenshots 4.5 is quite doable on a C0 even, the h50 should be up to the task. So, with a 10x multiplier I guarantee you can get that to 4.5, one way or another, and your ram and/or your northbridge is what is holding you back from a high FSB, not only is the ram only rated for 800mhz, but you have 8 gigs of it, that is a big chore for the memory and chipset to bare as I said earlier, if you really want to see what fsb/mhz you can get the cpu to, just take out all but 1-2 gigs of that memory and play around with it, hell, even if you go down to 3-4 gigs you should notice a massive difference. If nothing else you will know what your processor and memory are capable of, and unless you have a lot of memory intensive programs 4 gigs honestly is more than enough. Anyhow, just my 2 cents worth...

The chip is CO, but its max stepping is 9.5, but at that setting I cant get it past 4Ghz.
I am looking for some cheap 1066Mhz ram, unfortunately cheap and 1066mhz dnt seem to go together. But less ram as long as its faster will improve my overclockability, even though I haven't reached the threshold of my current ram?

Sorry dale, I'ts not that i don't know how to overclock, it was this I45 that their was a setting or two that i'd kept missing and need someone with identical specks.
Anyway hats off to you sir!

Rhia, have you taken you ram off auto? Drop your ram divider to the lowest setting and push your cpu freq up slowly and boot.
If you come to a point where it won't boot try upping the cpu freq some more because sometimes we encounter what is called a HOLE and not a wall. Please post screenies of cpu-z memory tab, spd tab, and cpu-z tab.

I can't find any specific timings for my ram other than 4-4-4-12. When I set the timing to this and the voltage to 1.8 I cant raise the fsb higher than 340 on a 1:1 ratio

This is my ram http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/G...ragon_PC2_6400

Sorry for the lateness of my response, but I got so frustrated with the ram I had to go out and buy bioshock2

Your ram are is rated 1.8@cas5 and 2.0@cas4, try upping the voltage at your set timmings.

ah, I misread sorry, more power to the ram then!
as for the ram configurations, it seems to like config4 the best... what exactly is the difference between the configurations?
