Anyway hats off to you sir!

Rhia, have you taken you ram off auto? Drop your ram divider to the lowest setting and push your cpu freq up slowly and boot.
If you come to a point where it won't boot try upping the cpu freq some more because sometimes we encounter what is called a HOLE and not a wall. Please post screenies of cpu-z memory tab, spd tab, and cpu-z tab.
don't be sorry, as I said I was joking, just a playful jab is all. anyway back to Rhia, I agree only configs on memory that work for me is 2 and 4, so as far as what the differences are, who knows, must be a set of subtimings with the ram/chipset the board sets that we can't see but obviously matters in how the board runs. Also, I see you ran prime95 to stress your cpu...do you have linx? I only ask for at least from what I see that stresses it even more and gets the cpu hotter and takes less time to find problems with an OC. ALso I'd like to see what temps you'd get using it for considering you have 1.45 volts through that cpu your temps seem quite good and I didn't think the corsair h50 was much different than high end air cooling...also you definitely want to use more than 1.8 volts for those settings, your memory may need up to 2.2 volts easy for 1000 mhz plus...ESPECIALLY with 8 gigs! Keeping that in mind guaranteed you need more than 2 volts for what you're trying to do.

What I don't understand is why you can do 4.2 ghz with a low multiplier 8.0 and not even 4.0 ghz with a 9.5 multiplier...if the ram/fsb is what holds you back you'd think the higher multi's would work better, something there isn't right...you should get your highest mhz overclock with the 9.5 multi.

Afraid I dont have linx, I've been using a orthos for minichecks (30secs) and prime95 for 20min checks.

After testing Config3 and 4 work well for me.

My temps are 45idle and max65 under load using realtemp while gaming, and speedfan during stresstests.

I have found I can get 470fsb into windows by raising the vcore to +0.35, (1.51v) and setting PL to 10 isn't this beyond the safety threshold of the e8500? (I want this chip to last 12months at least)

ps. all jokes welcome

Really would love to achieve the same sort of stable levels on the 9.5 ratio

Decided to sell my 4x2GB sticks of Geil Blackdragon ram for 2x2GB of something faster

Ok, well try this, pull two of your ram sticks out and leave slots #1 & #2 loaded and leave your memory divider on 1:1 and timmings and voltage the same.
Now, in your bios change your bus speed to 460 and the multiplier to 9.5 and leave vcore the same for now ( 1.5 bios ). Set your chipset voltage to 1.3ish and do the same for the FSB voltage. Boot to windows and test with linX 15/20 passes and keep an eye on those temps.

Let me go hunt you a linky for the linX.
Here you go!

Also I sold my 8GB, so I'm using 4GB of Adata PC6400, until tomorrow when my Corsair Dominators will arrive

Err, after 3secs of LinX my temps reached 90! O.O

ok I this is my LinX result from using the new Corsair Dominator ram.

My system is stable for gaming and 3DMarkVantage, but not after 30secs of Prime95 or Orthos testing. I have;
Speedstep: Disabled
Ratio: 9.5
CPU Freq: 444
NB Latch: 1333
FSB Finetune: Disabled
DDR Freq : 1065
Enhance mode: Auto

Ram -
Config 3
PL10
5-5-5-15
(rest auto)

Voltages -
CPU +.25
DDR +.25
Chipset +.3
FSB +.25
Core1 : 63%
Core2 67%
MCH: Auto
CPU PLL: 1.5

Any tips on how I can make my system more stable at all would be greatly welcomed

two words, better cooling...

No way that will ever be stable at over 90 degrees, highest I ever saw my system be and pass anything in linx was 87...and to consistently pass for multiple runs it seems 81 or so is tops, any more even 82 or 83 is a no go for me.

Agreed, Agreed, Agreed!
A hugh factor in any stable overclock is COOLING so, try reseating the H50 with some good quality tim such as ocz freeze, ic7, or mx-3 and use just the smallest amount the reseat the cooler.
Now for your unstable overclock, drop your ram freq ( divider ) down a notch to say the next lowest setting and run a stability test. You can come back later and tweak the ram timmings a little tighter when you are good with the overclock.

You mean like this
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...s534/4pass.png
I reversed the airflow in my system, so the H50 became the cool air intake.
I can get 2 or 3passes at 4.25, but seeing this I think with your help I can push it some more
-oh and +rep ofc
