[Kotaku] New Xbox To Launch In 2010?

This console won't be as "new" as we're accustomed to with console generations; rather, 1UP say it'll be a slight improvement over the existing Xbox 360 technology, with games able to run with slightly faster framerates, or with slightly better graphics than those on the "older" 360 consoles.

Well, if it's just a slightly improved 360 like they claim it would be, it isn't as bad in a sense as trying to start the next generation so soon. On the flip side, it's a slightly more powerful 360 which could cause problems for the millions of owners of the now less powerful SKU.

Stupid move either way IMO.

Didn't Microsoft just recently say that they are going to match the 10 year lifespan of the ps3?

Yea they did. Anyway if this "new" 360 is ocming out I think its stupid. Its basically just going to cause me and alot of other people to be very annoyed.

I dont wanna have to buy a new console because MS failed to deliver us one int 2005 that wouldnt last the 10 years they said. Means giving them MORE money.

They should do a trade program. Original 360+£30+postage or something. I could live with that.

The pace at which technology moves these days is amazing, how can something be expected to last 10 years? I wouldn't have a problem with buying a better Xbox360, just like buying a new graphics card. Probably cheaper too

If you spread out your upgrades it's not so bad. I mean, you don't always need to have the fastest CPU on the market at every point in time.

Here's the cycle I use:
Year 1: Upgrade CPU/MB, and RAM if it's a new RAM type
Year 2: GPU
Year 3: Upgrade OS HDD, add more RAM, sound card
Year 4: Add or upgrade GPU, new PSU
Once every 8 years: Monitor
As needed: Storage HDDs, and less important parts (network card, replacing noisy fans, etc)

This spreads out your upgrades pretty well, and as long as you're getting mid to high end parts you won't fall behind on your ability to play video games in the least bit.

They really have no point in upgrading it. I highly doubt that people would fork out the extra money to buy a *slighly* faster console.
