Windows 7 says I need cd/dvd drivers to install

Thread Starter
I just put together a new rig and I wanted to install windows 7 on it. I have been wanting to give it a shot and now I can't. I'm using rc 7100 and it says that I need to install cd/dvd rom drivers. I figured it should automatically work. I boots from the dvd drive but it won't install windows. Out of curiosity, I tried to see if there are any drivers for my dvd-rw, but there aren't any.

Any advice or tips? Also, do I need a key to install W7?

I had this problem on a friend's rig and setting the DVD drive to slave made it work. Strange but true. Let me know if it works out for you.

EDIT: You might also consider burning a new disk at a slower speed.

that would only work assuming his dvd drive was ide and not sata.

do you have the board set to RAID/AHCI (if it supports said feature) also, are you using the intel controller or the gigabye controller (2 SATA and 1 ide)?

Could just be you need the "f6 raid driver" from intel to get the drive working.

The drive is an SATA dvd drive. I'm not sure about the raid features, I have everything on default settings. I'm not using any ide drives and I'm not sure about the intel stuff since this is on an AMD mb.

The MB that I'm using is the MA790X-UD4P

I would say that you have raid enabled and need the sata controller drivers, or even without raid enabled you might need the sata controller's drivers just because windows 7 doesn't have compatible ones pre-installed.

ah i see, i read your sig rig and assumed it was the EP45, my bad. it still might be a SATA issue. If you have a usb thumb drive, put these on it:

32bit:
AMD controller (if you have connected to the yellow SATA ports)
Gigabyte controller (if you have the dvd drive connected to the purple)

I hope this helps you out. also no need to have a serial at install. you can add the serial later and activate it.

Didn't work, even tried burning the disc at 1x. I'll have to wait until the download finishes.

Well, I'm using a SATA drive and it's not working.

I checked in the bios and under SATA it says ide, other options are RAID and something else. IDE seems like the most logical.

I'm trying to insatll 64bit, would it make a difference if those are 32bit? I ended up finding a key as well. Now I just need to get the thing to install.

i totally meant to link both 64bit and 32bit. sorry about that. Yes, you'll need the 64bit versions for it to work.

64bit:

AMD controller (if you have connected to the yellow SATA ports)
Gigabyte controller (if you have the dvd drive connected to the purple)
