Heya,

I'm looking for a Laptop Cooling Pad.... so here's the thing

1- Do they actually work??? Never seen one or had one before

2- What material should the pad be (any suggestions)?

3- If you have time can you recommend me one (not to expensive)

Thanks

Okay

Thanks for your response... now I'm pretty much illiterate when it comes to this... so lemme try to make sure I got this

http://www.chomerics.com/products/thermal.htm
then -> Thermally Conductive Insulator Pads -> ???

Sry the terms there (other than therm) frankly do not make sense to me

I am not sure what you need it for exactly, I assume you just needed it for a heatsink inside your laptop etc. Now Maybe I think you were talking about some extranal pad etd that tilts your laptop etc I am not so sure. I would think you need thermally conductive gap fillers, I imagine that is a thick white etc. substance that marshmellows and sticks to and transfers heat to a case or heatsink. I would use it maybe to stick behind a cpu and draw heat away to a heatsink etc. or cover ram on videocards you know the white pads. that is what I imagined you needed.

Its best to call or email them and ask they can help you.

frankly I'm thinking something along the lines of external - because I know that if I messed up with anything I'd break it since I'm a complete noob

no no no. he means like a pad to set the laptop on to. modern laptops get quite hot and are very uncomfortable to use for very long without a heat barrier. furthermore, some pads have fans and such in them to move more air.

personally, I never used one. I always used laptops on a desk or on a pillow on my lap. I've been skeptical of them...

Well I have one of these...
http://www.nextag.com/Targus-Chill-H...81/prices-html

I'm actually quite happy with it. My Dell Latitude D830 gets really hot so I picked one of those up cause it was on sale at best buy, sadly the only computer store with a good enough selection near me that I know of. It has definitely helped in keeping the temps down and it serves as a shield to keep the heat off your lap or desk or wherever. It's actually really quiet and that one has a 4-port USB hub built into it and it's powered through a USB plug. The fan blades can break if it gets handled roughly though. The whole thing is plastic and pretty light but it's fairly solid, it won't fall apart on you, but you could break it if you try hard enough.

EDIT: Amazon has it for $36, $4 less than the lowest price on nextag...
http://www.amazon.com/Targus-AWE12US.../dp/B000Q8623A
And Newegg has it for $42...

I have the one without the USB, and it does make a difference.

The one without the USB hub is much cheaper, I got it with cause I needed more USB ports, the D830 only has 3 lol. I went from 3 to 6 so I can't complain.

It really does in fact make a difference having the chill pad. The metal bottom of my laptop went from being hot to rather cool to the touch.

EDIT: Also the 4-port hub one uses a USB to mini-USB plug for power so there is no stupid proprietary power cord. So if something happens to the power cord you aren't screwed, you can just get another short USB to mini-USB cable. Can't remember if the non-USB one is the same, I gave it to one of my friends for his laptop.

it actually depends on how the cooling system in your notebook works. does it blow air out the back or the bottom?
Actually, tell us which laptop you have.
2 very cool coolers are the Coolermaster NotePal Infinite and the
