Agreed. Even if you were gaming at 1080 resolution, a GTX260 is still very capable all on its own. Add to the fact that most of them overclock to match (and sometimes exceed) GTX280s or better cards, and there's very little incentive from where you're at now.

I would say try it out on the project. If in fact it is 1080 resolution and you're not getting the performance that you're looking for, then it would make sense to trade up.

This is just my personal outlook though because my system is below your's in terms of processing and graphics power, but even still, I haven't found a game that has truly demanded me to make the upgrade move just yet at 1920x1200 resolution - even though it does get tempting sometimes looking at all of your i7's, GTX's and HD4890's.

but i heard and is prolly true that the 300 series will be in the $400+ RANGE for starters. which for most people is too much to spend on a GPU.
if you want my advice (this will sound fan-boyish) go with a 4890. there are going down in price and match the performance of the GTX 275. when you OC it gets to the performance of the 285. and, if you dont need a GPU right now, then wait for the 5800 series to come out. it will only lower the prices of the 4890 and the 4870x2 even further
