Alternative Power!

Thread Starter
Hey there,

I'm going to India for a month very soon and have bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 in preparation to take some good pics.. I dont have DSLR money and this camera touted features like HD video recording, shockproof up to 1.5m, waterproof up to 3m, and a good set of picture taking options. And plus 12megapixel resolution, so I can blow the pics up pretty big & use them for whatever I want.

I paid £269.99.. i know i could have got it 15£ cheaper off the net but wanted it there and then...

I love the camera but I'm suddenly struck with a problem.

I'm doing charity work & rainforest trekking in remote india.. These guys dont have toilets (I know cause I'l be building some) let alone power outlets.

I need some way of charging it, be it dynamo (handle cranking) or solar panels.. but does anyone have any idea of the kind of specs id need to look at (or better yet, a product i can buy).

The internal battery is a "DMW-BCF10E" model Lumix battery pack.

The charger is rated 110v-240v, 0.2A, 50Hz/60Hz AC input, and 4.2v, 0.65A output. in the output there is a symbol resembling a line with three dots underneith.. i cant remember for the life of me what that means..

Anyway, i look forward to your suggestions

The three dots under a line mean DC power, like all batteries.

I don't know how solar panels connect to something like this, but they would be DC power as well, and a 5w panel would be more than enough I think (output of the charger is about 2.5w).

Not sure how the connections would be for your camera. Comes in different colours though
