First Build

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
I have never built a computer and I want to build one for gaming since I hear custom PCs are better than pre-built ones. I was wondering if anyone could help me out on picking out the best parts for my gaming rig. I'm looking to spend no more than $1,100 (Including shipping). So the parts I need will be CPU, mobo, video card, case, PSU, RAM, HDD, DVD burner, and a monitor. If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated.

Here is something I came up with a while ago.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...spx?ID=9917585

The case could be swapped for a cheaper one and the video card could be too. I have the PSU the video card and the memory (only in a dual channel version) and all of them are great.

Here's a build...

Edit: I put the wrong RAM in. You need DDR2.

Sorry about that here it is.

CPU: Core i7 920 $280
Motherboard: Foxconn Flaming Blade $175
Memory: G.Skill 3 x 2GB $100
PSU: Mushkin 800 watt PSU $150
Case: Antec 900 $100
Video Card: BFG GTX 275 $250
HDD: Seagate Barricuda 500GB $60

Total=$1115

If you still need a keyboard and mouse you should go with an AMD build with a cheaper EVGA card because of the Step-Up program.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't see the monitor in the original list. But I still agree with PathogenX to go AMD. And losttsol picked out a great monitor.
