I hear Arma 2 and OA doesn't have great campaigns and the only playable value is its sandbox modes that you create yourself. Is that true? Is there also a good online community where deathmatch or co op happens? I've been a fan of the demo last year and I play it on and off last six months. I love realistic fps or sims. I'm just hoping that it's not too late to get on the bandwagon.

IMO it's worth it for the multiplayer. Their is both coop (which is what I mostly play when I play) and PvP. I tried the SP (of vanilla ArmA2) in coop and it started out fine but we encountered glitches later on preventing us from continuing so we just gave up. Also the AI is sometimes unrealistically hard with things like spotting and killing you from a mile away (no snipers).

Campaigns made by Bohemia are pretty bad and usually work only as a demo of all the things you can do, but there are lot of user made campaigns or mission that are way better and are worth playing.

And yes, ArmA is still best in multilayer with some of the communities like http://www.tacticalgamer.com, http://www.unitedoperations.net/ etc.

In those example communities I posted they play bit more realistic way but there are also communities that don't play so realistically or play only TVT (team versus team) or play somehow differently. There are lot of communities and I hope you find some great community where you like to play.
