GTX 260 Power Requirements- 18A x 2 ?

Thread Starter
Would a Power supply with the following Spec's handle the GTX 260, on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3L, E8400 (up to 3.6ghzpossibly higher) 2 x 2 GB ram, 1 x 500gb HDD Sata, and a SATA Burner.

Customer looking at a Simple Coolmax PSU 600watt

+12V 1: 18 A

+12V 2: 18 A

+12V 3: 15 A

I do not undersand the 3rd 12v honestly, but will 2 connectors with 18A handle a 260 without issue?

Sure, for example:
My NorthQ 650W Flex-Black has 2 +12v rails with 20 A each, so a PSU with those specs will also handle it

Correct me if I'm, wrong

EDIT: My point is that it's about the total amperage

was just wondering if that was how it worked, GTX 260 is 2 power connectors correct?

which would mean that the way they list on this Poweruspply, 2 x 18A would be enough to handle ?

No, that would mean that my 650W wouldn't be able to power my GTX 260, and AFAIK, I'm using it right now

Those 36 A are in total

You will most likely be just fine, BUT the real minimal requirements for any GTX260 combined rail is 38 amps. This PSU would fall just short of the standard requirement by 2amps. Try and find a 20A+20A or higher PSU.

Depends on how the PSU is wired, If you can get each of the seperate 6 Pins from different rails, then you'll be good.

If they are both from the same rail, It probably won't work.

They always say more than they need... i have 2 gtx 260s and if they require 36A on
+12 Volt rail it would run on my corsair tx750w since it only has 1 rail which is good for 60A. 36 +36=72A therefore it wouldnt be running correctly if at all since gpus are not the only thing drawing current. So Nvidia is once again exaggerating since my system is running just fine (i think my gtx 260s say they want a combined total of 46 amps on the box so if that was true i would be ****ed.

The max for one GXT260 is 182w,which is a bit more than 15a and must from 12v. Depending on which coolmax 600w psu, it can produces combined amp from 35a to 37a (it can be overrated for some psus). The oced e8400 at 3.6G can take up to 100w. Based on what you have, it should be fine.

Are you talking about the 192 or the 216 edition? BFG wanted me to buy a new 1200w PSU which is not needed in my case. I know i was fine with my corsair tx750 but i still learned something from that.
