And yes I too have massive airflow through the case and across the NB radiator heatpipe (massive high cfm 120mm exhaust fan right at the back top part of the MB along with a couple of other weaker intake fans.)

I am thinking of removing some of the fins off of my cpu cooler in order to place that dinky little fan on the NB radiator - will this help?? Any other suggestions???

I also have set all the voltages to their lowest setting except for vddnb where it appears that voltages can only be added upwards from auto.

Thanks for any help!
Are you sure it's not your sb ? these go up in sli.
Also there's a build in temp sensor near pci-e bridge 1 ( I have read this somewhere ). Do temps go up using a gpu benchmark? ( no cpu so the heat Does not come from there ) Like occt? If yes than it's just this sensor Reading heat from your gpu(s) and you shouldn't worry. Second you could try reseating the heat blocks on the board using artic silver thermal compound.
My temps during gaming go up aswel. This seems to be normal.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

I downloaded occt 3.0.0 and ran the cpu and gpu individual tests and weirdly the mcp (reported by everest) stayed at about 55c through both.

I'm not running sli but do have an 8800gt in bottom slot as a physx card and could not find a way to elevate its temps through stress in occt.
I have the gtx 285 in top slot and wonder if I can swap them without losing priority to the GTX. Would allow much better airflow and uncover the sb heatsink.
And should the 8800gt be in the gen1 slot?? instead of doubling up the gen2's with different cards?

After playing crysis for about 30min I got "mcp" temps up around 62c and felt the sb and nb heat sinks - both pretty hot but not have to pull fingers away hot. Oh and Sb is hotter than upper heat sink and pipes. Sb temp in bios reports at about 45c max but of curse it's idle then. Still I wonder if everest is giving me a weird temp for mcp.

I guess the next step is reseating the blocks with some artic - should I use silver or ceramic on these chipsets? I see you say silver but I read somewhere ceramic - whats the diff?????

I know a lot of questions... I'm a self taught 1st timer who reads a lot of contradictory info on the web about all this stuff.

Again thanks for any help! Very much appreciated

I personaly love silver, it keeps the temps down by excellent heat donduction.
But opinions may vary.....

Ok
I think you may be right about the temp being associated somehow with the gpu's... occt and hwm don't report any temps other than gpu's being anywhere near 60c. tmpin0-40c tmpin1-38c tmpni2-26...

Not sure everest is getting it's MCP reading from.

I have found that different programs give different readings.
On my other rig ( my media center / low graphics lan game system )
Msi something...790gx chipset, phenom II 940 @ 3.4ghz ( 1 week ago it was phenom 9950 @ 3.2 ) and hd radeon 5770, 2 gig ocz reaper kitt 1066. Temps are more acurate, maybe a amd ati dragon platform thing I don't know. But maybe becouse it's nvidia and amd temps vary per program.

If you have a radeon card I would go for a amd chipset and get yourself a dragon platform.
It just doesn't make sense getting a nvidia sli chipset board when you have radeon card(s) unless you are going to upgrade to nvidia.

ive got a 770amd board, but atm i cant afford to got whole hog change memory as well as board so i thought id just change the board, im maybe looking to go nvidia with gpu as its better than ati for folding. also its a bit better for handling heat with sinks etc as im running at 3.8 on my 955 and it gets a little warm at times thats my logic! thoughts?
Logic it is....Nvidia is the best! And amd the cheapest best. €900,- for a processor.....No way. I'll wait for bulldozer. ( but since reports say it will have amd version of hyper threading and will probobly crush intel, it's gonna cost a lot 2 ). In that case, you made a good choice. Pair it with the new 1090t @ 3.6 and chrush intel core i7 960 @ 3.2. Or buy ddr3 wait for a month or 2 and buy a Asus M4N evo 980a sli. Makes no sence upgrading the board to another ddr2 board when ddr3 is becoming mainstream. Catch my drift?
I already got ddr3 myself but no board yet until next month, so therefor the advice.
Is it realy gonna kill ya to wait?
And bulldozer is probobly gonna be full am3 so you'll be future proof aswell.

But again opinions may vary.

As for the temp issues, I have one sensor in HWM that goes up to 127*C!! Some say it is a glitchy sensor. Ideas?

@scc28 - Just hold on to what you have now until you can upgrade to DDR3. If you do stay with the DDR2, I would look at other boards that are known to be more stable.
