got a somewhat customer looking for a computer to do standard internet stuff. like most of the people i know he also plays world of warcraft.
he has a 500gb hd he is wanting to use.
everything else is up in the air. what are your suggestions?

edit: he also wants it to where he won't have to upgrade anytime soon.

This isn't very detailed but:

Decent mobo
4850~ gfx card
atleast 4gb ram
550-650w psu
either a cheap quad or nice dual, but if he wants it to last long i'd say go quad.
dvd drive
case

I'd look more into it but I'm in class lol.

dual core will future proof it for a while?

I'd say a quad will have higher "future proof" than a dual. That's my opinion. I wouldn't get a dual unless it's over 3ghz.

Unfortunately, "future proof" is a myth. Your friend would be better off just getting the parts that provide the best performance for cost ratio then upgrading one part at a time such as a video card until a total overhaul is necessitated by games/OS requirements.

Edit: Is your friend swayed by brand? I mean, AMD offers a great lineup of processors as well. You don't necessarily have to go with Intel. Stay flexible. Also, look for micro ATX motherboards. Nothing wrong with mATX except for the number of PCI slots but performance-wise you won't lose anything.

is 500 to 600 with lcd or without if its without you can build a decent rig for 500-600. A amd build probly would come out to be cheapest and still get a quad and nice video card.
